Well, then I can tell you that Heroes V is direct download with one time serial key activation and it runs without any trouble. ;-)
I don't own WiC there but I own it on Gamersgate and there TAGES is listed as DRM, but I don't really remember it.

Edit: Looking at gamersgate version of World in Conflict, it also have serial listed so probably serial activation is needed. So it's either serial and Tages or just serial there and I'd guess that this one will be similar.

Edit 2: World in Conflict is also very good game. It's very warmovie-like and cinematic with good atmosphere.
