Stiler: A bit of sad news is that the sites Founder, and former owner of JA (he sold the site a while back) Randy Sluganski, recently passed away last month :(. He had been battling cancer for quite some time and still tried to keep up with the site as it was his passion.
Holy mackerel, I had no idea. Well, he's now part of adventure gaming history as far as I'm concerned. That is sad news...

Edit: Ah, here it is: "Note: If you already own X Superbox and redeem the game on Steam you will get the X3: Albion Prelude Expansion Pack for Free." It'd still be worth it to me to purchase that version to get the other games DRM free.
Psst... If you download X games in Steam, go to egosoft site, download the latest patches, ignore their installer complaints and force them into the corresponding game folders... you'll get your sweet DRM-free. Except AP, the devs keep it steamed and don't release patches outside of it.

Awesome! Thank you for the advice. I'll give it a shot!

Edit: Hmm, looks like there was an update for X3: TC on Steam to version 3.2c, while the latest patch they have on their site is 3.2, so the patching method you describe may not work for X3: TC anymore. I'll try it, though, and let you know.

Took almost 6 hours for a 600 meg download.
I am still on Darkstar One file 3 of 5 and that was after 24+ hours. I have not even started the 13+gb Darkstar file.

To be honest, I will never buy anything from Strategy First again.

Stiler: I've been a member for Justadventure for a long time on their forums. It was mainly a great adventure-game focused site for reviews and talking on the forums. The shop came later on and while it can have some problems from time to time support will usually get it sorted out quickly, at least in my experience.

If you like adventure games you should register there and post on the forums, there's a few of us that are here on gog as well from there.
