Nope. But I don't think you'll be able to buy it cheaper on Steam. It's a very good deal.

Edit: ninja'd, should've refreshed :D

DotEmu is having a 60% off sale for all things Nordic Games.

Has the always on DRM for Settlers 7 been removed? I'm interested in the game but not if that atrocious DRM policy is still in effect.

No. And chances are it never will be. It's one of only 2 games that still have that, and I think that the support for it has been dropped. I hear it's fantastic though, and it has really nice graphics for a strategy game.

I went ahead and bought it during the Uplay sale, myself, for $7.50. I think of it like this: I'm always online anyways, so it really doesn't bother me.

Heh, personally, I was thinking about picking up The Guild 2 or Spellforce 2 while they're super cheap and guaranteed DRM free.

Thandor and The Sting also piqued my interest, though I know nothing about either.

Sad. I like the idea of the game but I don't want to buy an abandoned game with always on DRM.

I'm not 100% on the fact that it's abandoned, but look, it's two years old. I get that some devs have dedication that lasts years and years and it spoils us a bit, but to be honest, I only expect post-release support for as long as bugs that severely hinder my experience last. That could be a month, 6 months, or two years, but if the game works, and it works well, even if there are minor graphical oddities, I don't expect them to keep working on it.

I also get that people don't like the always-on DRM, but if you're like me and use a desktop that is always online, it's not a big deal. I think the reason the DRM is still in place, whereas other Uplay games are no longer always online has less to do with Ubi and more to do with the developer, which is what leads me to believe it's been abandoned.

EDIT: Didn't finish my post. Heh.

But, from what I understand, you're missing out on a fantastic game by not buying it. And the fact that it's got that DRM doesn't seem to take away from it for the people that do buy it, which is what convinced me to buy it.

Does anyone know if Anno 1404 from GetGames is available in German (or if GetGames generally provides multiple localizations)? This is one of the few cases where I would prefer the (original) German audio.

where were you during the gamersgate sale?

This has been said thousands of time over the past few weeks Renaissance >>>> All other Guild 2 games.

The Sting is... peculiar. Heist planning simulation. Buy tools, hire help and then pre-plan the entire burglary setting the routes and activities of every crook on your team. Then watch it happen live.

The previous game in the series was made free (in German) and even ported to Windows. http://cosp.sourceforge.net/ (check the forum for a later build) You can find the English version in more abandoned corners of the Web.

And you could always sample the game that started it all, They Stole a Million for C64, using the free C64 Forever and a good old archive http://www.gb64.com/game.php?id=7873
Or at least watch it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18r4clfpgLA
Ah, this one actually shows the planning magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpASHLS9Xi4

Ah, that actually sounds really interesting. Definitely a unique premise.

I'll see about looking into the other games, but at $2, I might just take the leap.

Yeah, I've heard that, but Renaissance is the only one that's still DRM free to my knowledge. And I still would like to try the others, so if I can get them DRM-free, I'm all for it.
