fix-cz: So buy quickly before they fix it!
90% off Railworks is not an error. It's the same discount on Steam.

grynn: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is $18.73 (63% off)

Both Steamworks titles.
Space Marine was changed to -50%. It's $24.97, £14.97 or €24.97.
Dungeon Defenders $1.99 on Amazon digital
Man, was really hoping the recent Duke Nukem DLC would be in the amazon 2K Games sale. Nothin' doin' though.

The Stronghold collection for $5 is tempting, but I know I would never play them.

Have you seen the DNF Complete in the Mega Bundle ?
Has anyone here played Civ 5? There is a decent deal on it at amazon but I know the initial user reviews were horrible. So has the game improved at all since the release?

grviper: Spiderweb got Securomed at Gamesrgate. Steamed at Steam. It's like the developer decided to try all possible ways to make purchases everywhere unsatisfactory.

orcishgamer: I still think he's too expensive, but there's no DRM on his site, and he did permanently discount all his games there. They're not as cheap as Steam, for sure, but if DRM free is important to you he gave you an option. And he has super long demos.
avatar
StingingVelvet: Very upset by this. Since it seemed amazon ditched the stupid client and DRM I was making them my first-stop shopping source. Now I don't know what's going on. I emailed them to ask what's up with this game suddenly requiring the client.
avatar
orcishgamer: If that's so, fuck, they didn't used to add any DRM beyond what you'd get from the dev by default (which sometimes meant Steam, I'll admit) but if it was DRM free from the dev it was DRM free from them.

Btw, their DRM free digital MP3s require their client to download, but definitlely don't have DRM. I assume it's not just the download step that requires the client, but the actual install step.
Last 2 games I got from amazon (small dls, avadon and 4 elements) had the same thing. Needed the amazon client running when you installed the game but not afterwards. That's the least intrusive DRM possible.

ne_zavarj: Dungeon Defenders $1.99 on Amazon digital
I just got 5 copies. The game activates and downloads on steam (Its even required).
avatar
StingingVelvet: Amazon says their client is not DRM and only downloads the files. If that is true then WTF is this:
I got that too. After I started the game with the amazon client running it decided I had the full version (or it flipped a bit to make it the full version) and the next time I started AVadon the client was not running.

In other words, it checks once.

I bought the game only recently so I Can't really comment on it compared to an earlier version, but so far I like it far more than 4. It's too early if I like it as much as 3+Conquests. Of course it is impossible to be as good as Test of Time.
Just bought on Steam:

Cossacks and American Conquest Complete Pack for $5.
Railworks3: Train Sim 2012 Deluxe for $4.

Good deals.

For me (and many others, check the forums at CivFanatics aound release time) the game is so spectacularly bad that it almost hurts to play it. The problems (atrocious AI, less choices for the player, removal of many game elements, crude UI that hides many values from the player and requires tons of clicks to get those that aren't hidden, etc.) are so severe, and so deeply ingrained in the design, that no amount of patching or modding is going to totally fix them. On top of it, it requires Steam. Personally, I wouldn't even buy it for 5$. There also is little chance that more non-superficial ficing will be done, because the lead designer was fired (or left voluntarily, details are unknown) in the meantime.

However, I belong to the (rather large) group of people who liked Civ4 very much. Civ5 seems to appeal more to people who didn't. In essence, the game now plays like a wargame with some additional elements tacked on. This appeals to the people who always played that way (which was tho only strategy in Civ2, a very successful strategy in Civ3, and relatively difficult in Civ4). For people who like Civ games for the atmosphere, for the feeling of being immersed in the creation of a complex alternative history while being a part of it, Civ5 has very little to offer.
