GameRager: Um if you want 10 bucks plus the money for the paypal fees set the minimum bid at 12?
Um, then the bidding goes over 12 bucks, you still have to pay the 4% fee on the highest, winning bid, and you're back to square one, paying 4% of whatever price is finally settled for the item. Which is exactly what the seller is complaining about. They don't want to pay 4% of any of the winning bids, no matter how high or low they are.

Kabuto: If GameRager is talking about the seller doing that, that's shill bidding which is also against the rules.

Everyone seems to rip paypal a lot but credit card companies charge vendors 4% at b&m stores per transaction also.
avatar
Rodzaju: My understanding is that the seller can set a minimum price before the auction starts (like a reserve price).

I think this is what GR meant.
Will the seller refund the 4% in good faith if not using paypal? Probably not. I have no problem with a reserve. It seems to me this seller doesn't want to pay no matter if the auction exceeds their expectations.

I thought they just didn't want to get below 10 bucks(the current minimum). But if it's for any bid why not somehow allow the buyer to contact you when and if they win and arrange for them to also pay the fee? I'm probably overthinking this......imo eBay should allow sellers to recoup their fee losses.

Sorry, I was responding to the comment about shill-bidding.

You are overthinking this. First off, why would a buyer want to pay the 4% fee? The costs associated with selling should not be the buyer's concern. If you accept the terms to sell, you can't just arbitrarily decide to only follow the rules when it suits you.

By the way, how would you feel if GOG added a hidden 4% cost at checkout to their prices? I imagine you would cuss them out. For GOG though, they have to pay 4% whether it's paypal or credit card usage. At least a seller could get lucky if the buyer refuses to use paypal. Why doesn't the seller start complaining about eBay final fees while they're at it?

basicly the seller in this case is trying to force the buyer to pay her costs it's as if you went into a store and when you got to the till they went "Thats just the price with our profit you have to add 10% to cover our bills" but then again you live in the US where prices on the shelf don't always show VAT... I mean sales tax...

Well tax is independant of the store.

Some brick and mortar stores reward customers who don't use credit cards. At those stores, if you pay by credit card you pay the normal sticker price. If you pay cash or debit, they refund you the 3% credit card terminal fee they didn't incur as a goodwill gesture. Either cash or store credit. This seller is doing no such thing however. Either 100% or 104%.

Wodmarach was referring to the fact that shops here usually take tax into account and incorporate it into the price so you don't suddenly get charged extra at the till.

I know that. VAT pre-added makes shopping easier since you do less math in your head but tax isn't a surprise hidden fee. It's independant of the store.
DotEmu has O.R.B. for $1.25, thinking about getting it. I think its a Homeworld clone. Pretty good deal.

Kabuto: Has anyone platyed Lost Planet: Extreme Condition? It's $4.99 with soundtrack where I live. Wondering if it was worthwhile.
I liked it. Pretty standard 3rd person shooter but it looks nice, has some unique aspects and is still a looker. It was a good PC port too, in my experience, though some people will say otherwise.

Well worth $5 if you will actually play it.
