At about 6,5 euros, its rather pricey for a copy of Half Life 2, compared to the sale price on Steam. Also it can not be registered on Steam, so mods/patches/adding episodes is probably out of the question.

How can it not be registered on Steam? HL2 was steamworks by default, so it actually *must* be registered. Which sucks, because since they moved the game to the Episode 2 engine, we are all stuck with a broken game until they bother to fix it.
