orcishgamer: Well, I guess you get 40 hours AND giant, purple dildo bats, sounds like a pretty good deal.
avatar
StingingVelvet: I seem to have a different value perspective than a lot of others with video games. In my opinion a 2 hour bluray costs $20 or more, so a video game costing $50 is not a bad value for me even if it only lasts 8-10 hours. Games like Skyrim are a fucking steal, I would pay $100 or more for them.

That said, just because of sheer quantity I try to wait for sales on games I'm not super eager to play.
Lucky you, i would never dream of paying $50 for a game. I just dont have that kind of entertainment money. I will only pay $5 for a game i really want and $2.50 or less for a game that i kinda want. I recently bought Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2 for $5 each. For average games like Cryostasis and Necrovision, i will not pay more than $2.50. Now, a few days ago i had a real dilemma, Risen was on sale at Amazon for $6 which was over my $5 upper limit, but i decided to get it anyway because i've never seen it on sale for less than $10.

StingingVelvet: Amazon has Saint's Row 3 for $10 off... $40. I went ahead and got it... they show you the key right when you pay, so just plug that into Steam and off you go.
avatar
orcishgamer: So you found the DLC situation acceptable vs. the amount of game content?
It sucks that they want to charge for cheats. I'll agree with that.

But they're coming out with longer mini expansion packs sometime next year, and one of them is called Gangstas in Space. Gangstas in Space.

I just think games are worth much more than that. If you don't then you don't, but I think that's a shame.

tomhrxbfg: LIMBO suked... even though bought on sale $2.5....
avatar
Heretic777: i keep seeing rave reviews about this game, but after looking at the screen shots, i decided to pass. i just dont think i will like it, but if it shows up in one of the indie bundles, then i dont mind trying it out for cheap.
I think the way to enjoy LIMBO is drunk, trust me, it's awesome while drunk.

Now I often do pay a lot more than that for games but I'm usually pretty cheap, I think cable television is too expensive as are movie tickets (I've only seen maybe 3 theater movies this year). I don't buy movies, just have Netflix. I use free Pandora or sometimes subscribe to Zune Pass for music. XBox Live and video games are what I spend my money on for entertainment. I can see given how much I spend on other entrainment why folks wouldn't spend more than 5 bucks for a game.

Some people just don't have a ton of cash to spend on gaming. :\

I mean, many here say that being poor isn't an excuse to pirate and that one should save up and buy the games they want or buy them on sale, then complain when people don't spend "enough" for a particular game.

I said it was a shame, I didn't mock him or complain. I wish he would support gaming more, but if he can't then he can't, or if he doesn't want to then he doesn't want to.

No offense meant to you personally, I was generalizing by saying "some people". I wasn't trying to insult you in any way.

You make it sound like you don't have a lot of money for games, but in the Winter Sales Madness thread you said:
I loved all these sales, its fantastic, but not for my wallet :) All the new indie bundles just adds to the madness. I love it and i still have $275 to spend over the next month.
According to your rules on how much to spend per game, this would mean that you plan to buy around 50 to 100 games this month.

Frugality is actually a good trait to have in many parts of the world. Yes, such people pay less for games, but they DO pay for them.......plus it's not like the game devs don't make a good profit on others who buy early and buy full price regardless.
Alpha Protocol 80% off at gamersgate. Sims 3 is UK EA daily.

I think I've said it before on this thread. Get this game NOW!
Btw what are the chances that Divinity 2 goes on sale at Gamersgate this holiday? I really want to give Larian my monies, but I'm also saving up to buy the Divinity 2 Collector's Edition.

Oh yeah, Starpoint Gemini is 60% off too. It's the lowest I've seen it go on Gamersgate thus far. From what I recall, it's now DRM-free too.

It also got a free expansion, IIRC. Been a while since I played it. But when I did, it was a lot of fun. The DRM was removed because it caused issues with the game, by the way.

They werent joking when they said your actions have consequenses. After my second conversation in the game(after 3-4 minutes) i recieved minus rep with the guy i was talking with, but got a perk that reduces cooldown of abilities slightly. :O
Hell, i dont even mind the lame hacking minigame, its just too good. ^.^

Games ARE worth a lot more than that - but I can understand that situations of gamers are very different and that some might not have a lot of money to spare beyond food, rent etc.

I just recently had a talk to a friend about this too - One more reasonable way to look at the worth of things is - how much do you value your own work time. I can only speak for me, living in a developed world country and here the typical average salary is very roughly between $10 and $30 per hour. So, let's just take the middle ground, $20 per hour that's 3minutes of work for 1$ and now tell me that a decent game is only worth 7.5 minutes of work - that's less then a commercial break on TV? Most who have at least an ok regular job earn more than $2.5 each day on the way to and from the coffee machine or spent on the toilet.
