Realms of Arkania here on GoG are based on the same P&P RPG system. Drakensang itself has a plot unrelated to them AFAIK, has a prequel Drakensang: River of Time (also 50% on GG if you log in from US) and that prequel has a crappy expansion Phileasson's Secret which the developers released while going bankrupt.

The RoA here on GOG is based on an older ruleset of DSA (TDE). There is also no connection between those two in terms of story, only the setting is similar. Also RoA 2 + 3 are (mostly) non canon.

You can use the community patch for RF1: Pure Faction.
