Yeah, I don't get it either. It's like bitching that now something previously Steam exclusive is out on GamerGate you have to buy it again there. No you don't!

I highly doubt they'll be giving out steam keys for millions of old purchases obviously. People will have to rebuy to get it on Steam (or Buy for those who never did).

Best to just wait for a sale.

Also, couldn't you download a DRM-free installer of Stardock's games from the Impulse Anywhere site? IIRC, that installer didn't need the Impulse client but if the game gets patched you'd have to download it all again.

Edit: it seems I remembered wrong. You still needed to install Impulse and the Impulse Anywhere site seems to be down.

i recently bought Vampire Bloodlines from Impulse and after installing, i created a shortcut on my desktop and was able to launch from there without Impulse or internet connection.

I believe so, but I dislike Gamestop with all my being. Only reason I have Impulse still installed is the Stardock games.

I don't think DLCs like those are worth extra penny and I would go with vanilla game.
