uchos: ShowMeTheGames (Indie "portal" run by Cliffski from Positech Games (Gratuitous Space Battles, Kudos, Democracy)) is running a "sale" on some interesting indie titles.

It's basically a list of discount (up to 75%) codes to use to buy direct from the developers.

Up for 2 weeks.

EDIT: ShowMeTheGames is not a DirectDownload Shop, more of a showcase page. You don't buy from SMTG, but you'll always be liked to the developer's own pages. It's totally legit, if anyone is wondering.
I can recommend Space Pirates and Zombies, Frozen Synapse, and Evochron Mercenary from personal experience.

I played and liked one of the earlier smuggler's games and liked it. Haven't tried 4.

I can also recommend giving a copy of VVVVVV to a friend and watching them die repeatedly while trying to beat it.
I can also second the suggestion for Frozen Synapse, for those who like strategy games. I also recently got AI War from the Steam Daily Deal, and while I haven't been able to commit much time to it due to exam studying, it looks to be a very good RTS.

One of my friends has been thoroughly enjoying Space Pirates and Zombies, and two or three other friends who enjoy playing space-sims recommended Evochron Mercenary to me a while back. I'll probably install the latter later on tonight to give it a go.

PenutBrittle: I definitely agree it's underrated, but if you already have a huge backlog keep in mind Steam tends to drop it to $2 during the Christmas/Summer daily sales.

worlddan: I'm not trying to start a debate but I disagree. I found the game to quite boring and the controls I thought were clunky. making it difficult for me to play. Since I bought it for just $2 I didn't care to much but I failed to see what other people enjoyed about it.
I also used the Xbox 360 controller and these tweeks helped a lot :

Alpha Protocol Tweeks:

To improve the framerate issue:

Open "APEngine.ini" located at "X:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Alpha Protocol\APGame\Config" and change the following:

UseBackgroundLevelStreaming=false
OnlyStreamInTextures=true
OneFrameThreadLag=False

My sound is fine but if you are having issues this might work for the broken surround sound:

under [ALAudio.ALAudioDevice] change it to the following:

DeviceName=Generic Hardware

To improve Michaels Movement. This slows the turning speed and slows the animation when crouched ect. I really felt it helped improve the game.

Change these values in APGame.ini (My Documents)

InteractDistance=250
CoverWalkSpeed=75.f
CoverRunSpeed=125.f
PlayerRotationSpeed=80000.0f
MoveSpeedNormal=240
MoveSpeedScoped=80
SprintSpeed=320

I havent tried these but you can also mod the graphics settings to make them better.

Go to APEngine.ini (My Documents --> Alpha Protocol), make sure read only is unchecked in the file's properties. Makes these changes:

[System Settings]
Trilinear=True(This is originally set to False.)
MaxAnisotropy=16(This is originally set to 4. You can set this to 4, 8, or 16 depending on how powerful your system is.)
EnableHighPolyChars=True(This is originally set to False.)
MinShadowResolution=32(32 is the absolute minimum resolution. You can set this higher, like 512, but this can affect the performance greatly and can also cause shadows to start gltiching.)
MaxShadowResolution=4096(This can be set lower if you system does not have a powerful graphics card. Remember to set it in normal resolution numbers like 1024, 2048, etc. 4096 is the highest this can be set.)
bEnableBranchingPCFShadows=True(This is originally set to False.)
bEnableForegroundShadowsOnWorld=True(This is originally set to False.)

Save, close the file, then make it read-only again.

This won't help with the overpowered boss fights though lol

Also I don't know if it was mentioned but Mirror's Edge is $5 on origin. Good game.

Overpowered boss fights? Wha?

They go down in a couple of chainshots. Except Brayko, and even then he can be dealt with. Boss fights are easy, but you DO need to put points into at least one weapon do handle them. Chainshot is the easiest way, but shotgun asshole Mike THorton is also awesome to do it with.

Not to tangent too much, but some of the bosses are way OP if you've gone for a pure stealth build. I realise very few people do, but it seems to be a common thing that catches new players off guard about AP. They don't put any points in any of the weapons, and then are completely screwed at the first boss fight. Then they get to the next boss fight, realise it's EXACTLY THE SAME, and that it's far too late to do anything about it.

There are a lot of things about Alpha Protocol that I dearly love and will fight it's corner for, but the boss fights are not one of them. At best, they've been incredibly lazily put together.
well, at least Alpha's boss fights fit the story/game much better than the ones in Deus Ex: HR..

Besides, you can kill the first "boss" purely by stealth ;)

Probably a region-blocked sale of some kind, and it is kinda annoying to post a deal without saying what it is.

... holy shit, talk about a total backstab to GOG itself.

I bought ALL those games when they went on sale earlier this year for much more than that. For $36 or so.

I guess this is the DD version of the retail package talked about on the previous page. At full price, all of those games would run to $56 on GOG.

It's the game page of Saints Row: The Third on Origin. It seems they've started selling third party games.
