Petrell: The important question is can you play it WITHOUT steam?
avatar
gyokzoli: I think no.
Another game I'll never going to play then.
Breaking The Rules is only $2. I didn't like it before, but the latest patch (v1.31) makes the gameplay a lot more solid. Controls are a lot tighter too. It's very twitch-based since hits are registered only when you successfully land one on the dot, meaning you'll need to time your moves just right. Block is completely based on reflexes (block only works when an enemy is about to land one on you), making the game even more twitch-based.

It's very different from the herd. Feels like a good mix between Tekken and Mortal Kombat.

Smannesman: I really shouldn't get it though, I've already got an insane backlog.
Like when did people from this topic buy games to actually play them? O.o

Buy it for teh lulz. ^.^
avatar
dandi8: Oh, that's good to know. Would you recommend it then?
To be honest, probably not. Unless you have a hardrive with a really fast transfer rate. Otherwise, as soon as you get in a car, the game will become unplayable.

I got it too, for $2 it´s a quite some fun. But I cannot help but for me this Brawler has some homoerotic untertones, which I think is quite subversive for that genre, and I dig that.

I buy the games so that, when I retire, I have something to do. You know, when tweens don´t wants to cuddle with me anymore. XD

I can imagine the petition:
Dear publishers. The twins will not let me play with their stuff forever. Will you?

dandi8: I've heard the Gamersgate version of Saints Row 2 is the German censored version. Anyone know if that's true?
avatar
bansama: Actually, that's only half true. If you add the key to Steam, you'll get the German version. If you use it as is, it's in English (and runs far better than the Steam one anyhow).
That is also kind of wrong. The non-German Steam version is the only one compatible with Saints Row Powertools, which lets you tweak settings so it actually runs decently, because SR2 was a terrible port that also RUNS WORSE if the PC is better than the Xbox and so on.

http://saintsrowpowertools.com/

The non-German version is also the only one compatible with this mod http://idolninja.com/sr2.php
which makes the game the best GTA-like out there.

DO NOT get the Gamersgate German version. It is crippled without SRpowertools and this mod.

The German version is also censored, as far as I have read.

Luisfius: Snip
The GG version is not German. If people add the key to Steam (which is not required) then Steam gives them the German version.

As it is, I found there to be no significant improvement with the power tools (with Steam version) over the GG version installed to a fast drive. As such, the GG version is pretty much the best you can get if you don't want to be tied to Steam.

But seeing as the third is out relatively soon, I wouldn't bother with the second all that much now.

Do you know what version is the patch that comes with SR2 on GG? Is it the same as Steam?

Not sure, but last time I checked, the Gentlemen of the Row patch/mod was only compatible with the non-German version of the Steam-distributed game.
I bought Breaking The Rules from Desura 1,79€ (70% off).

You can try a demo (v1.31) there.

Not surprising considering the region lock fiasco.
