Foxhack: That would involve more work than slapping together a stupid DOSBox install with no configuration.

They're too busy selling hats. :p
Exactly.

I never thought I would see this in my life, having a sale on id classics crossing items to TF2, like the RPG.

Indeed it wouldn't hurt them to include music and update dosbox to the latest, too busy with hats, dota2, and l4d3's cross-with-tf2 hats planning phase.
Of course, that is the difference between GOG and other services, GOG puts effort into massaging the games they sell. I don't think anyone else does.

[edit - I wish GOG would get older ID/Bethsoft games]

To be fair, that was more a jab at iD than Valve. "Sure, we'll make a stupid rocket model! What, add music to our old games? Using that MP3 ripper is too much work!"

So true ...
I bought quake 4 for around £4 six months after it's release. Can't believe it's £14.99 on steam. The games a thoroughly average shooter, nothing stand out at all. It's fun enough and the mechanics are ok but I preferred Prey which I seem to recall was released around the same time.

Prey was (purely IMO of course) awfully bland with a couple badly implemented gimmicks, so that speaks volumes of the quality of Quake 4.

Prey gave me motion sickness. 30 minutes with that thing equaled spending the rest of the afternoon in bed, with a pillow over my head/eyes, cursing the world and wondering how pregnant women manage to get by.
I didn't see that anyone had posted this, so here are more details on Steam's iD software sales (blth current and upcoming):

Seems legit. I friend tossed me the link today. I think it's for real. Good deals there.
Remember this incoherent mumble jumble I said a little earlier? Well... I apologize for bringing it up again, but I just realized what the point of it was... see, I was playing Bloodlines, and I thought, hey I'll write about how it's on Steam...somewhere. But instead I went off on a tangent about gmail.com or something, but yeah... I hope you didn't pass on bloodlines!

Thanks. Im wondering whether to wait because the prices quoted in Eurogamer would be USD... australian customers on steam pay a 'premium' so no idea whether prices will be the same
