There's also a dirt cheap Hover Ace. Don't know how well it runs on modern hardware but a few yeas ago I did have fun playing it, blasting enemies, speeding along the tracks..

1C usually uses Securom on its digitally distributed games(sometimes Starforce on their retail), but in the case of Assult Squad you _can_ register your multiplayer Gamespy key in the Steam app, and the Steam version has no DRM besides Steam itself. Doing so is also advised as the DLC content is Steam exlusive(will get a compilation release elsewhere too, but dont hold your breath), and the game gets regular patches with content updates(God Almighty! An 1C game with proper support! :O), and the retail patch lags behind several days of the Steam release(german developer - russian publisher ;) ).
