Skunk: Out of sheer curiosity I have to ask something. Because there are probably only five people on GamersGate who have actually bought it (and four of them bought it just to revisit Daikatana to appease their sense of humor), it's hard to find the answer anywhere.

What kind of DRM does Daikatana have? It doesn't say anything, it doesn't even say "DRM Free". There's no DRM information.
Daikatana used to have a CD-check, which likely means the Gamersgate version has no actual DRM.

A lot of games used to have CD checks and didn't have SecuROM, but now they don't have CD checks and use SecuROM instead. I'm not sure this is very conclusive. :/

Daikatana does have DRM i think, If you filter search games by 'NO DRM' only 3 of the square enix games appear meaning all the others have drm, daikatana included.

Really lame TBH Since i never really buy games with DRM unless its a steam sale or something.

Double EDIT: Just saw tomb raider anniversary for the same price on amazon but you obviously get a retail version instead so save your cash for that if possible, also Saboteur on PC is only £2.00.

Clearly they don't want anybody to buy Daikatana, if they have the gull to add DRM to it. I suppose it wouldn't be the first time copy-protection existed for the purpose of protecting the consumer...

Don't bother with the PicknMix since most titles you pick in there won't come anywhere near the pick'n'mix 'promo' price.

It just amazes me why they add DRM to these sorts of games, its been out for what 11 years? was there really any reason to add DRM to it? Lol. Not only that but also the other games. I don't like DRM (and don't buy games with it on unless its a steam deal that too good to pass up ETC) but i can see why they sometimes put it on new games (to prevent early piracy) but why put it on games that have been out for over 6 months or in this case 11 YEARS? makes no sense.

On another note, only reason i made a gamersgate account was because i thought they were almost entirely DRM free, but looking at their catalogue over half of the games have DRM very lame indeed.

About Gamersgate and DRM: In some cases they really don't know if there is still DRM. Maybe they get the copy wihtout the CD-check, but the program still installs some drm because it wasn't removed. I asked them for a while about Dawn of War and got a answer like this. So, if there is no DRM label they mostly don't what if or what kind of DRM there still could be.

So, if you really want to be sure write them a mail, normally they answer back very fast.

Edit: Ahh, Dawn of War is now labeled as "other DRM". I'm not sure about it if it was Dawn of War or another game.

Actually, no. All that means is that there is NO DRM information available in the system with which to filter by.

As it is, Daikatana does not have a serial key, a fairly good indication that there is no DRM on it.

That's good news for Skunk then, i wish GamersGate would just put it in the 'DRM Free' list though if they know it doesn't have DRM.

I had a hunch this was the case.

As for whether I'd buy it, I don't think so. I just want to know if I could share the "joy" with my friends if I were to get it. That, and if I was to pay $5 to get it, I'd want to be able to back it up and keep it for the next time I want to revisit Daikatana. Again, I was mostly asking out of curiosity. I could get a good game on GOG for $1 more, and a sale is starting soon. I have better plans for that $5. ;)
