my name is supyreor catte: Define banger? Are there particular musical elements you're looking to avoid? Or do you mean banger in the loose sense of "a good tune"?

dtgreene: I mean "banger" in the sense of headbanging. Banging just doesn't sound like a pleasant experience to me.

More seriously, if anyone feels like giving serious recommendations, there are, indeed, a few things I'd prefer to avoid:
* Electric guitar. (This is why, in Final Fantasy 5's OST, the big bridge theme is the one track I don't like. The FF12 version of this track doesn't have this issue.)
* Constant non-melodic percussion. Specifically, drumbeats.
* Vocals, unless it's like a classical choir.
Disciples 2 has got a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, without those elements

The Outcast soundtrack is majestically beautiful. It was played by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, with the exception of one track (Ulukai Dance) that is electronic and was not composed by Lennie Moore, the game composer.

Here is one track, as an exemple of what it looks like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn6E-lZlpx8

Is that your own definition of the word banger(-free), you came up with it yourself? Or is that some kind of common definition?

Just asking because I have no idea what "vocals" have anything to do with headbanging.

It's not a real definition of "banger", but rather a definition of the sort of things I actively avoid when it comes to music (especially the electric guitar thing).

One sensible starting point for a possible definition of "banger" might be to start from the first two points.

As per your definition, definitely check out This War of Mine's OST. It's melancholic, minimalist post-rock and it's fantastic for accentuating the bleak atmosphere of the game.
Anno 1404.
Train Valley.
Leisure Suit Larry 6.
Ori and the blind Forest
Ori and the will of the Wisp
Journey
Everyone's gone to the rapture
Florence
Dear Esther
Unravel
Abzu
L.A. Noire
Machinarium
Braid
You should probably visit a doctor if you think your personal made-up words are common knowledge. This is just disrespectful.

So I presume it means something like... music that is not trying to raise your adrenaline level?

So e.g. the Final Fantasy theme is banger-free, while the Doom first-level music is not?

...more disrespectful than being rude because somebody used a slang term? Woke up on the wrong side of the bed, sourpuss?
