Xenonauts

On veteran, and it was one hell of a ride. Spoiler warning for the final mission: The final mission is simple but deadly. You have an effective time-limit in the form of reapers (extremely deadly alien melee shock troops) that will start to storm the bridge of the alien capital ship after an X number of turns. You have to kill the high praetor but what makes it interesting is that it is a suicide mission unless you take a detour and destroy two power cores. The reason being that you won't have time to do that after you killed the praetor because by then the reapers will have started storming the bridge, and you need the power cores destroyed in order to activate the alien ship's escape pods needed for escape. This all makes for an incredibly tense and exciting final mission.

Unfortunately the reapers started to storm the bridge before I could clear the room adjacent to the high praetor's throne, which forced my soldiers to charge ahead into the final alien position (reapers are incredibly deadly). Col. Evans at that point had managed to flank a bunch of the aliens through a hidden side passage, a small utility corridor of sorts, and had put himself into a position to peek into the room with the high praetor. Col. Sharp was the first soldier to get a clean shot on the praetor as everyone barged into the room and managed to wound it badly, but was punished in the next turn by mind control from the praetor itself.
With the rest of my soldiers falling like flies to the reapers that had managed to catch up to them, the mission seemed lost. However, Col. Evans' guardian angel decided to save him one last time by giving him one more turn of life. A reaper had charged at Evans, but ran out of action points before it could deliver the killing blow. Evans had a choice: kill the reaper and avoid a gruesome death, or barge into the throneroom and unload his MAG Storm]MAG Storm[/url] onto the Praetor. Evans chose the latter, shredding the high praetor to pieces, releasing Col. Sharp from its control and saving humanity in one fell swoop. Evans payed dearly for his selfless sacrifice and was promptly mauled by the reaper in the next turn. Now the only soldier left alive, Sharp made a beeline for the escape pod, leaving the alien capital ship to its now doomed fate.

Here's to you Col. Douglas Evans. You were the most experienced and decorated soldier the xenonauts had, but that wasn't enough. You just had to add a +1 to your already unmatched killcount by killing the high praetor itself, your parting gift to humanity as it turned out.

Okami

Such a wonderfully charming and brilliantly creative game. Loved it to pieces!

Final Fantasy XII

I've had this game for roughly 10-ish years and have only recently finished it for the first time. An excellent RPG with great writing/story and an engaging combat system. Probably my favourite FF game of the few I've played so far.

Sly Cooper 2 and 3

Fun old-school 3D action/adventure/stealth platformers. Not much else to say. Highly recommend if you're looking for some PS2 classics.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

Golden Sun 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games ever of all time, and while I was a little bit disappointed in certain design aspects of Dark Dawn, I still enjoyed most of my time with it. Really hoping another game in the series comes along, especially after that ending.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Loved the first game and the sequel was just as awesome. It can be very much a collect-a-thon if you want to 100% the game, which can be pretty dull, but the majority of the gameplay is fun, as are the dungeons/puzzles and the story is pretty enjoyable. Plus the various other game modes are neat and fun to play even after finishing the story. Glad I was able to play and finish it before my 360 fried itself to death, haha. RIP in pieces.

Fallout: New Vegas DLC

Finally got and finished all the story DLC and, for the most part, I really enjoyed them. The difficulty curve in two of the DLC's was a bit silly, but I was playing on Hardcore, (on Easy difficulty, but still) so it was somewhat understandable. Nice overarching story and some really cool areas that I would have liked to have spent more time in, as the main quest lines for each of them was fairly short, and most of the sidequests weren't particularly memorable. But overall, a good time was certainly had.

Final Doom TNT: Evilution

The last level is a real horror to finish, I appreciated everything but the last boss.

There are some pretty painful levels finished (their design is more than doubtful), but on the whole the game was nice.

Nice write-up!
Aquanox, Nov 20 (GOG)-I had very low expectations for this game because this isn't really a genre I care for but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong I didn't love it but there was enough there that made me think I could really like a more polished and slightly easier game.

Plot was wacky, characters were wacky, voice acting was terrible with the exception of Flint, navigation/controls were a little wonky. Most missions were ok but a few too many had instant restarts if you failed to protect an ally or building and towards the end they got rather long with no checkpoints or saves.

There's better out there but this isn't a bad intro to the genre.

Did you try the prequel yet?

GameRager: Did you try the prequel yet?
No, I got this and Aquanox 2 in the big delisting sale and didn't realize there was another. Finally tried it after it sat on the shelf for so many years.

Thank you - I thought Col. Evans and the team deserved a fitting eulogy :)

NOTE: there is also another prequel being proposed/worked on called Aquanox Deep Descent, but this is the original one.
The Last Guardian (PS4Pro)

Holy shit, where do I start with this one? The idea is a great one, pretty unique in fact. You're a kid that wakes up in some unknown place with a chained beast stuck full of spears next to him. The game is the journey and experience shared between the two to escape weird valley they are trapped in. The beast, a funny looking bird dog thing, learns and becomes a devout companion. He's also the games bane.

The game looks the part and the animations in particular for Trico (the bird dog) are something hard to match anywhere else. Music is great and the story is pretty awesome, especially how it tells itself. It may be a Sony game, but the cutscenes are not intrusive on gameplay for a change, they just come at the end of major events in the game. The music is awesome as well.

But by god this is also one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. The game does not run well. It was in development for 10 years, it was meant to be a PS3 game but only made it to PS4 in 2015...and they still couldn't make a game hold 30fps. A PS4Pro does run a bit better than a standard console though still not great. You can make it better by forcing the PS4Pro to 1080p in the console menu. But if you're using a regular model then you're shit out of luck. It makes the game a chore to play in certain parts.
Then the controls. You have a free camera on the right stick like usual, but it often has a mind of its own. It feels like the camera is attached by a rubber band that keeps wanting to pull the view off you. Then there's all the times your trying to line something up and Trico puts his great huge ass in the way and won't move...so all you get is a black screen. Then there's the times you get stuck between him and the terrain when he's immobile, and you have to reload a checkpoint.

But that's not the worst part. The AI of Trico is amazing in one respect, he really does have a mind of own and feels like a real living thing with fears. But trying to suggest to him what to do is infuriatingly finicky most of the time. Out of around 14 hours of play time I'd say 4 of that was just trying to get that moron to face the right way. By the end, the bond of caring friendship that was kind of the point of the entire journey failed for me. I was sick of the sight of Trico. So for me the game failed in its main sell.

There are plenty that ague the games artistry overcomes its roughness. Not for me it doesn't. I would love another game similar to this one that just works better though, it really is a good idea for a game.

This might be of help: Follow the steps/download the right files, and see if you can get it working.
(Note: You will need a copy of Win95 OS to use this program)

(Also not to nag, but next time maybe make a thread with the topic listed clearly(In this case "How do I make Havets Vargar work in Win10?") in the forums instead of using the wrong thread for such questions. That way you'd be more likely to get more and faster replies. :))
