[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic. (this one)
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

MarkoH01: Edit: O.K. - I give up. Even after installing this Software Informer there is no way ti install this thing. Clicking on Install in the Software Informer also leads me to my download directory where i can start setup.exe which opens the window which after closing will eventually lead me to the feedback site ...
Marko, between launching Setup.exe and getting to the window with the "Software Informer" and "Close" buttons You posted a screenshot of earlier, a separate installation wizard for the game should show up (check the attached screen).

If you didn't see anything like that, maybe the installer got blocked by your anti-virus or something, as gixgox pointed out?

No, the window you attached a screenshot from never appeared for me. I will try it again with my anti virus disabled because now I am curious.

You don't seem to understand what I did. I already extracted all three files. I needed to do this to run the setup in the first place. The setup then automatically connects to their server and then I get the window with the many checkboxes which let me install the Informer Software or leads me to their website in case I simply close the window. So no, reading the readme (which I alreday did before) does not help me a bit. I have a setup.exe which just leads me to their site or to the Informer Software.

Edit2: According to their FAQ the Informer is really optional:
"Software Informer is application provided by our partner Informer Technologies, Inc. Though the installation of the application is integrated into the package you download, the installation itself is optional. Software informer can easily be uninstalled at any time via Control Panel."

However I still don't know how to install those files and I tried everything I could think of.
That really sounds like your security software blocks the files.

Not all of the AV tools do it the same way.
I have Kaspersky, and I have to restart the PC in safe mode with Kaspersky disabled. Others can just whitelist the file with their AV programme, or disable AV only for the installation.
I get an error message, that the download is incomplete, others don't get any message at all, the installation just doesn't work.
That seems to be the case with your system.

I'm not sure if any of these MyPlayCity games are worth the trouble. These games are always free on MyPlayCity, but you have to take care of all the "extras" they are trying to give you, like toolbars, browser add-on....
But you can deselect all of them during the installation (- at least that's what I have heard).

Oh, my hint about extracting all 3 files into the same folder, is not far-fetched. Mostly it's possible to run a set-up directly from the zip file.
But since the GGOTD downloads are wrapped, that doesn't work anymore. It's important that the unpacked files are in the same folder.

I didn't want to talk down to you. During many years as a volunteering admin of the GOTD forums, I have seen that a lot of users stumble over that procedure.

I just tried it again. After turning off my AV the install procedure went totally different. The first thing I saw was an actual installer and not the window with the many checkboxes. So yes, the anti virus really was the problem. They should really add an advice on their download page to make sure not others are stumbling over this. Thank you for the help.

It's a common problem and almost every week they have to explain it is not a virus. Just look at post 28 and 29

The fake positive is not the real problem here imo. Imo the real problem is that the scanners don't behave like they normally do - not giving out any warning just surpressing th einstall window. This should be written directly under the download button to prevent such confusion (Sth. like - "If the installer window does not show up, turn off you virus scanner".)

It's not. It's free. Other stores will change it to free in 24 hours.
Or at least that's what I understood from the announcement.
