trentonlf: I’m next on the list to host, can I swap with you? My mom had to be hospitalized a couple of weeks ago and we found out she has stage 5 kidney failure. Unfortunately dialysis is not an option for her because of her health so she’s now on Hospice care back home and we are in a waiting period. My time and my mind will not be in a place to run a game.
Extremely sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

You've had a run of tough family stuff the past year or two :(

Sending prayers and best wishes to you and your family.
Thank you everyone for the well wishes, it is much appreciated!

It has been a hectic year with illness in the family, but things will be okay in the end. My daughter has had some recent scans and blood work done and thankfully everything came back good so hopefully she will be cancer free from now on.

For my mom it's sadly to the point that she will probably pass in the next couple of weeks. We will enjoy the time we have with her till then, and afterwards we will celebrate the life she had.

1. All the best for that! Beating cancer is possible. My sister has been cancer free for three years now. A bit more than three years ago she was very ill and had to go through several chemo treatments. But they seem to have worked! She still has to get a checkup regularly, but so far all tests show that the cancer didn't return.

2. Your mother is a very strong woman if she can take that view on the end of her own life! Celebrate life and look back without regret. That is how I would wish my end to be like. Give her heartfelt greetings and respect from me, even if she doesn't know me!
Role idea:

Anti-Voter.

On Mafiascum a role exists, that can cancel a lynch. The Governor. Which turns a lynch into a no-lynch. It is usually a Town aligned role which can save a player and the game if a no-lynch is better than a mis-lynch. However, it is dangerous to use since most of the time a no-lynch is bad for Town.

So what do you think about a minor version of that role. A role that can cast a negative vote. The negative vote would decrease the number of votes on the votee by one, instead of increasing it. Also the Anti-Voter can be of any alignment, so there is no implied alignment confirmation like there is for the Governor.

Open points:
- does the Anti-Voter get a normal vote and a negative vote in addition as his power? Or does the negative vote replace the normal vote when used?
- how does the Anti-Voter affect balance? It makes a no-lynch more likely, but it can guard against speed-trains. In scum-hands it would be quite powerful, I think, but also potentially self-incriminating if one doesn't give a good reason for anti-voting someone.
- if the anti-voter gets a nomal vote in addition to his anti-vote, he can in effect hammer someone he is anti-voting for while the votee is at L-2.

Can he self anti-vote?

The issue I see is, in Mafia hands it can be very powerful end-game, essentially bringing LYLO one step closer.

e.g. it's 5 vs. 2 and Town think they can afford a single myslinch. In fact though, if one of the scum is an Anti-Vote then Town is at LYLO already and they don't know it.

It is an interesting concept, but I don't think it works very well in practice.

The anti-voter would need to have a vote of their own, at least if they are town. Otherwise they effectively don't count for Town's voting numbers.

If they get pocketed, they can make a scum player virtually unlynchable pretty quickly. For that matter, they could possibly prevent the lynch of multiple players by simply moving their anti-vote to whichever wagon has the most votes unless they want that wagon to succeed.

ZFR already mentioned the problem with scum having it.

ZFR: Can he self anti-vote?
No. But the end-game problem is true. So let's not use that role.

If he can't self vote it's mitigated a little. 5vs2 is not LYLO, since 3vs2 is not an immediate loss; the antivoter can protect his buddy from lynch, but not himself.

I get a feeling lots of those roles would work nicely in a larger setup of 20+ players.

Cool idea. I think it should be a single vote that can be positive or negative. Perhaps have a secret "breadcrumb" that tells the mod that it's negative. They could show up on the votecount as being on the wagon but the tally of votes should be wrong (i.e. 2 less than it looks like it should be). Let them figure it out!

To have such a number of players!

Annoyingly we've definitely had plenty of players over the years, it's just a large number of them have wondered off to do more meaningful things with their lives.

I'm looking at you Robert B Easy, RObert DZAwney JUnior, Bazil Isek, Baz "The Pazzer" Pazzington, Viola Torx et al. Come back ye lazy bastards! ¬_¬

A weaker version of this role would be x-shot "enLoveder". Essentially instead of casting an antivote on a player, you make a player Loved for that Day only. You have x shots and can't use them on yourself.

This achieves the intention of "protecting" another player from lynch which you wanted to do, without several of the problems. The fact that you're x-shot means you can't jump around with your antivote and protect several players. If we add another restriction that you can't vote on a player whom you made Loved, it would mean you can't quickhammer (by unLoving and voting in same post) someone who's at L-2. It also means end-game won't be so straightforward. Sure, if you're scum then at 3 vs 2 you can enLoved your partner and protect him from lynch, but you'll be making yourself a target and giving away who your partner is.
