SirPrimalform: Although most of the problem is everyone being rubbish and lazy (myself included), I think the mods need to be a lot more brutal with the deadlines.
I think the deadlines in #12 were/are fairly strict, but the game is still moving along at a glacial pace most of the time. Also, if I made them any more brutal, I'd be handing victory over to the mafia (which almost happened in #5, if you remember; it was only the jester/godfather that prevented a smooth scum win).

Isn't that the game where the mafia forgot to submit the nightkill?

It was intentional?

The Jester was supposed to submit the kill......
I didn't kill on the first night of mafia 6. Being a serial killer, I didn't realise there were no mafia, so my plan was to wait a few nights just to fuck with the town.

Rodzaju: The Jester was supposed to submit the kill......
I'm still not sure whether he genuinely forgot to do so or did it deliberately. I think he provided both explanations at various points in the game.
Yay, PMs generate e-mail notifications again. It's good for prodding. :-)

Also 1740 posts? Longest game so far had 1208 post even with post-game fluff.

Wrong. But I think it's safe to assume that record will be broken.

How have I missed it?! I checked every single game (at least I thought so) before I posted it but it seems I didn't open G9 for some reason.

JoeSapphire: who's tasked with hosting mafia #13?
I have a MOST TANTALISING scenario in my mind

bazilisek: #11 has been going for almost five months.

(I have a delicious setup in my head myself, but I really don't want to waste it.)
You might try posting on another forum. For instance mafiascum.net does offer a newbie forum, iirc. Yes, it would be better to do it here... but the games there are much faster paced. We are talking weeks long, instead of months. I don't have an account there, I have only lurked and read a bunch of the games over the years, so I don't know how long it would take to fill up a game there. I just know that I have rarely, if ever, seen a game die from inactivity there.

TwilightBard: As far as deadlines...I agree to the need, and the idea of flexable deadlines is nice...don't want to touch too much on stuff since I'm still in game...but yeah...

This is the trouble with deadlines. I believe they are a necessary evil, but they do tend to help scum more often than town. Mainly because being inactive is one of the safest things for scum to do, and mandatory deadlines help this, imho.

I suspect all the replacements in recent games is a strong contributing factor to some folks losing interest. Replacements can be a good stop-gap, but too many and the game gets very hard to play, regardless of faction; it is hard to get reads on people if they are changing personalities as the game progresses. The trouble is that there are really only three solutions to inactive players: replace, modkill, or ignore. Each can disrupt and imbalance a game in different ways, and none is much better than any other on average.

Well, yes we take a bit longer, but 11 has plenty of real issues that don't pertain to just our pacing. But that's a story for another time. In fact, a lot of my comments probably are only worthwhile once 11 is over.

Yeah, I edited my above post to elaborate a little bit. I have mentioned that I love edit, right? ;) I think everything is a symptom of inactivity, since no matter how it is dealt with it can cause players, and even moderators, to lose interest. I have said as much, or at least implied as much, in the Mafia 11 game, so I don't think I am disclosing any new information. Regardless, more discussion on this can wait until after that game ends, if need be.

EDIT:
Nevermind. I seem to remember you mentioning a few times in the Mafia 11 thread that you had questions or concerns pertaining to the structure/set-up of that game. In that case it most definitely should wait until after the game is concluded.

I agree with you on that. I'd say that's one of the factors that killed #11, a game which I honestly don't think can even make it to the end at this point. There aren't enough active players to lynch anyone, and replacing is pretty much impossible.

There are only 2 day/night-cycles left in Mafia #11 (unless some really weird and low-probability event occurs), so if deadlines are enforced it will end. How satisfying the end will be remains to be seen, but it can make it to the end.
