yogsloth: On another note, Game 4 launched today.

One player rolled into the game, called everyone motherfuckers and idiots, and when asked to perhaps dial it back a bit, promptly claimed a role that doesn't exist in the open setup.

Day 1 looks to be fairly short in that one.

adaliabooks: I... have no words.
That one guy sure had quite a few, though.
I thought it's kind of nice and flattering when someone went out of their way to drop by and invite a representative but with each new story Yog shares it seems most of the invitees aren't at all that special. Not in the good sense, anyway.

Oh they're special... in an "everyone gets a medal in this olympics" kinda way.

I give the current game some credit, though. There are some real players that aren't being focused only on that one moron, and are using the opportunity to really ping each other hard.

yogsloth: [EDIT] Make sure you get to the part where the moderator steps in to call him a liar.
Wow. Really??

Daaaaay-yuuum. Now I've really got to see this.

Edit: Just a quick scan of the avatar pics and a few lines of bio, and I correctly guessed which player was going to open up with "I'm going to be an asshole this game." Oi.

bler144: I thought Drealmer said he wasn't available to play in that one. ;)
it burns!!!!

*takes note for next game bler and I play together to call him a 'motherfucking idiot'!*

maybe I'll just shorten it and I'll just refer to you as "mofo-i" - kind of cute, almost sounds like a smurf's name

yogsloth: DOH BURN.
hilarious...I hadn't even gotten to this before replying with my burning

Amazing. With the plays so far though, if he turns out to be town (and a terrible player) I wouldn't be that surprised.
Lately, when I've been multi-quoting, I get a new pop-up box for every time I hit a reply button. Previously it would just overwrite the contents of the one reply box.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

I think it has always gone back and forth for me and was unpredictable whether it would overwrite or create a new one, causing me to forget that sometimes it would overwrite and then I'd lose them (only a few times, but still.)

Lately I've been surprised that none of them have been getting overwritten, so I think they maybe fixed it.

I just never open up any new reply boxes. X-D

Problem solved!
Another tourney update. Sorta.

Crunkus, the moderator of the practice game I just finished, just finished another warm-up game featuring several champs, where he was a player.

He was Mafia.

He... did not do so well.

You think I've had some epic meltdowns in the past? You think drealmer has had some entertaining rage quits?

Crunkus did a phenomenal job as moderator of my game. His design was great, his flavor was great, and beyond all else, the level of constructive help and criticism he gave in the dead thread and post-game portion was second-to-none. I respected him immediately. It seems impossible to believe this is the same individual.

You can start here with the final vote that ended the game. Game ends, Town wins, and players start trickling back in to talk about the game, as we all do.

I'm warning, it takes a while, as the snowball starts small, but then it just starts rolling out of control. If you've got an hour to kill, check this out. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen in Mafia.

And after watching the LOLOSHENANIGANS of all the derpsters in the champs games, that's saying something.

[EDIT] Keep in mind his major initial complaint was that:
That people are sitting there wondering how someone could possibly be finding having their posts gleefully ignored and taunted by most of the thread and with the tacit approval of the rest of it seems like an issue.
He didn't like Town ignoring or not respecting his scumlists and townreads and such.

When he was scum.

With every update you give, my level "Glad that's not me in there" goes up another few notches.

Maybe we can retroactively consider this punishment for some sin you've committed. Or will commit, like destroying a small country somewhere.

[Edited for length.]

That's awful to hear. But interesting too. After my past few games and having developed my setup for some time, I've been thinking I would probably be better at moderating than playing (not that many of you agree, but I feel like my play is pretty good except for when I get overly-frustrated[and then my expressions of frustration just come off wayy worse than I intend]) and that maybe I should stick mostly to modding/assisting more often (oh, I know, you all want my assistance with your setups SO MUCH!) as to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

I need to assist mod again. JMich's game only lasted 1 day, and while I feel I had a good hand in making that go well, there were no complex mechanics or issues that arose that needed addressing. It's certainly not what I would call "sufficient assist-moderating experience before moderating my own game."

Is there anyone in the next few games that would like my assistance? I'd assist moderate any and all of the next games before mine comes up that any of you are willing to have me on board with.

I know I'm viewed poorly by a lot of you for certain behaviors in varying games, but please understand that I really feel almost all of that comes from me simply being misunderstood. I'm very different than a lot of people in this world, and I kind of want to tell you all more about myself so I can perhaps be understood better, but I'm afraid it will come off wrong/sounding like I want a pity party or to be treated special, when all I want is to be understood (and I personally hate the idea of being viewed as "special", I'm just DIFFERENT than most.) I'll say that part of the issue with people like me in society is that we have trouble in social interactions with groups of people who don't know us well because being misunderstood and judged unfairly for behaviors and how we express ourselves is inherent in the type of people we are. My brain works differently than most people's (it's also relates to being ambidextrious, the pathways in the brain are just different than what is "normal".) And so I often rub people/come off the wrong way (at least I'm not Rainman!)

I have hope that our interactions moving forward can be fun and rewarding and that any contention I tend to cause can diminish over time as more of you start to understand me more.

Having said all of that. Is there ANYone here that has ANY interest in helping me with my setup/assist modding for me? I have been working with it a long time now, and think I have a very good grasp on it and that it will work well, but I really want feedback from someone else with more playing+modding experience as to how they think it is and what might be needed to be done differently or considered about it and how to improve it to make it the most awesome it can be. There aren't really any crazy mechanics or anything super-complex in it. There's just a lot of flavor and little tweaks to some traditional roles here and there.

The most different thing about it will be that Days/Nights will be handled differently (think flub's games where the thread doesn't just close once a decision has been made/night has hit. It's not the same as that, but similar in that there is no "hard" majority lynch mechanic.) Without elaborating on it too much (and maybe this is doing it an injustice because you aren't getting the full picture, but, hopefully it entices you all rather than puts you off, and what I'm about to say isn't exactly how it is nor set in stone)...

Once a player has received a majority of votes, a close-to-deadline stage is initiated in which all posts from that point on ("that point" being a post that will be made by me once I see a majority has been reached, so that stage won't be immediate once someone has a majority) must be making an argument for saving the majority-voted player or arguing for a different player to become the majority. Each player is required to make a post in this stage explaining their vote or arguing to another player/players why their vote should change to a different player. Once that stage goes through its requirements, an end-of-day stage is initiated in which all posts from then on must have a vote in them (it's really just a short period after the previous stage to allow for a finalizing of the vote-count.) Then all votes will become locked, but discussion may continue until I post otherwise. Again, that's not exactly all the details or how it will exactly work, but gives a good idea on the variation.

I'm very open to feedback, questions, and/or concerns about that from you all, so please pose them in this thread for me to address and for all to see.
Additionally, if anyone is interested/willing in assist modding for me, please send the willingness in a PM, that way if there are multiple people interested/willing they aren't disuaded from saying so by seeing someone else having said so first. This will allow me to talk to each of the potential interested people individually and choose who will be best to help out of them all (because I know all 45 of you want to desperately!)

Due to my rampant Town of Salem playing, this is a setup I'm quite familiar with. However, comparing that to how games go on this here forum, I'd say that this idea would only work if a tight time limit is pushed. We've already seen many a day get the no-lynch due to pure indecision, even if this "day" lasts a week or more. This mechanic would only serve to draw it out even longer by letting even MORE discussion take place unless you give them a day or less to decide.
I can say the one thing I've really appreciated dipping my toe into the mafiauniverse site is the tight deadlines, and players who generally adhere to them. No-lynch is not a thing there.
