Fairfox: Who was teh user that threatened to rape me? They were 'vanished' perdy darn quickly, in any case. Granted they probs didn't have any gaemz, tho.

Edz: Also, who codes a custom forum that makes it sooo diddly-hard to even add a wayz to sep. teh forum 'n' gamies/GOGie account? Fail :/
Well, the problem here is that, as far as I know, the forum was never expected to become an actual community. Years back, it was solely a platform form people to ask questions/offer advice regarding games. Most of the technical problems we're dealing with here now stem from this.

fables22: I'm not quite sure what happened in the past - but I would go with the "whoever programmed the forum doesn't work here anymore" option. But either way, what I said is the way it is now, hence why it needs re-worked. We will find a way to do it though, I'm positive.
making deleted posts accessible to blue people would be a good start, I guess you can't do anythign about those that already got deleted but it's a pretty dumb system as really dumb/spammy posts get exterminated by the community and the offending users get off the hook easily.

Fairfox: Honestleee, even tho teh GOGie forum/community is officially 'less important' (fo' sho' confirmed by yo' good self; s'not bein' used as an insult) than teh main platform/business o' selling titles, it's probs a good thang that this is being looked into nao, because even tho it's a virtual headache for GOGie staff-peeps to have to re-write code (or whatevs teh heck y'all have to do... I honestly have no idea about perdy much aaanything) it's only going to bite you on the ass in teh future to leave it.

Reminds me of Steam, in a way. lolzer, nope, this isn't an anti-Steam argument like so many topics turn into, just thaaat I remembers for teh longest tiem Valve would constantly (/barely) 'bolt' stuffages on top o' stuffages and it got sooo clunky and unwieldy. It felt old. At least by almost 'having' to deal with this (in a verrr slow 'n' seemingly non-urgent wai) it 'future-proofs' thangs somewhat.

Does anyone get me (...generally)?

Anyway, just to update y'all: it's been made obvious to me by quite a few of you (and thank you guys for making me aware - you know who you are) that tackling the problems with alt accounts, trolling & scamming, and moderation of hate speech are the three most burning issues that we currently have going. Just so you don't feel ignored or left to your own devices again, I thought i'd update you on the progress here. Due to the way our forums are programmed, we don't currently have a way to ban users without deactivating their account, which is something we really don't want to resort to. However, I've been working with our website team on working out a way to (temporarily or indefinitely) stop people from posting on the forums, which I think is a step in the right direction. However, it would also involve a re-work of the downvoting system because the way it works now and with automatic deletion of posts, it's hard to track offensive posts (& trolling/scamming) back once they're gone. Again - something I'm in talks with website about.

I realise this isn't much and unfortunately I don't have much yet to show for it, but thought I'd let you know anyway, so you know I've not just been twiddling my thumbs...
Good to see something is being done. I'll reserve actual praise for when we see things happen (no offence, but we were promised things before) but it's still good to hear of any progress being made. Keep it up, and keep us posted. And if you do manage to save this forum, the songs of your deeds will be remembered for a long time (maybe even untill the end times, when Blizzard releases their games here DRM-free).

I wish I could have a bit more to show for it than just this, but alas...hopefully sooner rather than later.

Are you talking about banning users from the site as a whole, including private communication, while allowing them only access to their purchased titles? If not, preventing users from posting in the forum is already possible, always has been, as evidenced by at least a couple of cases in the past - users were banned from posting on the forum, yet retained full access and control over their account (library, PMs, etc.). And IIRC, this did not change when the NAS was introduced.

If yes, that'll be interesting to see, as allowing a banned user the privilege of still being able to contact other users privately never made sense to me.

But why keep patching the drowning boat? It's clear that the web team is clueless about the old old software, so perhaps, maaaaaaaaaybe switch for something new and better, no?

If gog has ANY decency then it should make it clear if that (a new forum) will happen or not, i'm not talking about a ambiguous PR answer, i'm talking about clearly saying YES or NO.

Yep, agreed and on the list already. I think we might go the other direction though and see about making sure posts don't get deleted automatically....if doable at all.

As I already said - that's not the current situation, as far as I'm concerned and as far as I know from the website team. They do now it's possible though, so it's only about making it available to me. I agree that keeping PMs available is a bit of a weird move, so will need to look into this further..

Well, in that case the answer for now is NO. But maybe it's another things that needs to be discussed to see what's what and what the options are.

Depending how, whom handles the banning, be it tempary or not, it will be the difference between me staying and closing my account taking my custom else where.
I won't be apart of a store that's heavy handed, because the CM/Mods are OTT of the use of such tools.
So i do hope it done fairly, frankly for myself the forums are a equal part of gog.
Will be interesting to see how it's all handled.

Closure? Let's make this simple, it's like you're talking to someone that is in love with you, instead of saying "Awwww, you're cute and all but right now we can't be more than friends" you're saying "No, i don't feel that way, move on!".
