Looks like we'll get another Dune. You know, probably. Given the things track record I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't actully comes to pass.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. A new adaptation might be interesting, and while I think that Arrival was greatly overrated it wasn't bad, so while Villeneuve wouldn't be my first choice for the job, he's not the worst one either. Still, there is no way it will be nearly as awesome and memorable as Lynch's version. Yeah, it's a mess, but it's a glorious mess and feels very close to the novel for the most part. To borrow what someone once said about a different movie "it might be the worst great movie ever made".

Agreed on Lynch's Dune. There are absolutely amazing aspects to it, but where it's a mess, it's a real mess.

I'll keep this new one in mind and hope for the best. Ye gods, I hope they do it justice.

Alright, what is Dune and why should I care?

I know of it as a famous RTS done by Westwood, I know it as a movie, I know it as a book in that its considered the Game of Thrones of Sci-Fi.

Uhm... no. It's way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay deeper, more imaginative and more complex then Game of Thrones.

I beg your pardon? I read all the Dune books up to Heretics of Dune (quit half way through that, felt not as good as the previous ones and somewhat disconnected) and I read all of the Song of Ice and Fire novels. I mean in spirit a least. It just "feels" right to me. It's sci fi but feels mystical, the scope is truly grand and epic, the cast is spot in my opinion. I know that there are many changes, but it still rings true. If I recall correctly even Herbert liked it (for the most part at least).

I didn't say it was crap. I said it's not in the same league as Dune.

I enjoyed the first book very much, for what it was- entertainment pure and simple, with little depth but an engaging read. So I got the following novels, and I read through them in quick succession. I do think they get worse with every following one, but are still decent reads untill the last, which is indeed mostly crap. Does that mean we're to expect a sensible post from you one of these days?

Was never overly fond of the original movie, so I'm interested in a new interpretation of Dune, perhaps it will be more my cup of tea.

I love Dune
