Never in my entire existence I've seen something so boring as facebook. Can count the times when people told me "you gotta get in, you'll love it", "dude I know it's crap but damn it's so useful" or (the worst one) "how can you dislike something you've never had or used?"

And ol' patient me was all the time saying "well, I don't like crack rocks, either" :P

Seeing people get utterly consumed by utterly inane crap was enough to put me off. Of course the proliferation of smartphones has made that 100 times worse. Now the term smartphone zombie is as common as it is accurate. I recently saw someone speeding across what is often a busy junction on a bike looking squarely at the phone in thier hand. 'Accident waiting to happen' is an understatement.

I've never had a great interest in social media. There are probably a few accounts still out there, abandoned for years gathering digital dust. Whatever it is that hooks people in doesn't work on me.

As per your analogy, I saw what it did to other people and avoided it.

I'm literally living behind the moon when it comes to such pseudo-social nonsense and rather sit somewhere outside with a book instead of a smartphone and such bollocks while I pity all those zombies and am sad because all the pretty girls are glued to their screens even while walking and there's no chance of eye contact anymore.

Yeah, there'll be something else for sure. Probably more time consuming and maybe even more vacuous than what's out there now. After all, pretty much everyone laughed at Twitter when that launched with its promise to share your tiny inane posts with the world. Now it's practically ubiquitous.

I've heard a guy I totally respect on the radio the other day, sayin' that the internet created a unique thing: that wacko who talks to himself and no one really cares about is now a worldwide wacko.

Boy, I'll say I got stunned the day I saw every damn person (old and new so there's no age "limit") taking pictures of food with their phones on the mall. I was all like "dafuq" deep inside, since it was so new to me.

I thought a like only button is quite clever. If you dislike something don't follow or learn to accept it. I'm also not a big Facebook user, so I might have had other opinion if I were a frequent user.

Having both Like and Dislike buttons is kinda redundant. But I guess they gotta appeal to people's incessant negativity somehow.
