tinyE: that's what they said over here and yet they won the presidency.
Get a grip, Trump isn't a Nazi. Besides, you must have known there was a chance he could win the presidency once he did well in the Republican primaries.

tinyE: So I just read there is a candidate over there who's pushing to get rid of Arabic numerals.
just shows how dead and boring the election campaigning is, that stuff like this makes the news
It's a shame Lord Buckethead could only run for election in the UK.
You can't vote for the wizards. The wizards ALWAYS plunge the world into chaos. It's always the wizards that raise the ultimate evil. Have you learned nothing from RPGs?

Sometimes it's the miners mining too deep.

That only happens with dwarves though because they're so excessively greedy.
Which reminds me of this:

Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The Dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame.

Ok, to put this into perspective: The person who said that is the candidate for mayor in a small town in the smallest of our "Bundesländer" (federal states), which is much smaller than the smallest of the U.S. states and has less than a million inhabitants. This guy is a really small light and member of a really minor party, and he is never going to get elected for anything. This incident only occurred because a member of the satirical "Die Partei" (see video in opening post) asked him what he intended to do about all these Arabic numerals popping up on houses in town - it was clearly a trap and with his answer (he said he wants to put back "normal" numerals there), the NPD guy only revealed that he doesn't know what Arabic numerals are, and that we all use them every day.

So yes, he's crazy, of course, but most of all, he's f***ing stupid.

For the Brits out there, when you hear "Die Partei", think "Monster Raving Loony Party".

And they even have a hymn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-Iub4KDIts

...the amazing thing is: the original of that hymn (from times of the east bloc) was NOT meant satirically.
We all know how to lure in voters. Just promise you will create jobs.

Election thread on GOG without the pirates, how disappointing.

The even more amazing thin is, that they didn't have to change a single word from the original text.

As a former Pirate myself (in the political sense), I'm surprised that they still exist.

Like the AfD, it was a party that started to represent a hitherto unrepresented (and wholly reasonable) set of political ideals, and then started to get hijacked by the political fringes. The only real difference is that the Pirates got hijacked by the far left, while the AfD got hijacked by the far right. Now the Piraten are nothing more than the bastard child of the Left Party and the Greens, while the AfD are little more than a cross between the CSU and NPD.

Both parties are a perfect cautionary tale about supporting new, supposedly "grassroots" movements just to spite the mythical "Establishment" - fringe movements love to co-opt such parties in order to get a foothold in the political mainstream. At best, they themselves become the "Establishment" in just a few years.

Personally, I'd be glad if they just did away with federalism and had two elections - mayor and Bundestag. The number of elections they have in Germany is absolutely fucking ridiculous, achieves very little, only serves to add more bureaucracy. A week ago we had to call the cops because MLPD and AfD supporters caught each other defacing the other's posters, which ended up boiling over into violence right outside our front door.

It feels like we spend more time with election posters up on lampposts than we do without them (someone called it "der ewige Wahlkampf" - "the eternal election campaign")

For what it's worth, I'm very much in the "none of the above" category. I'm very tempted to spoil my ballot.

Amen to that.
Unfortunately those parties had that reputation even before it was actually true, I guess there's some self-fulfilling prophecy at work which was quite deliberately made by the opposition of new rising parties.
I did vote for the pirates before their downfall but couldn't these days. AfD went down the drain so fast so extreme that I didn't even consider them anymore when it actually mattered for the first time.

Most likely I'll end up voting for some totally unknown party with a promising program again although I have no idea yet which one it will be this time.

The NPD posters are always the by far highest hanging ones around here for a reason, they never survived a whole day when in reach, now it takes a few days until someone climbs up there, haha.

Is there even any sensible central party anymore? All I see are somewhere around either end of that ridiculous two dimensional scale.

Something more funny:
"Die Partei" took over 31 Facebook groups of the AfD: Link
