R-Type? am I to guess that's a Gradius clone or is it the other way around?

holy crikes, this is so long ago I can't remember which was first, the reason I remember R-Type at all is because it has a Hülsbeck soundtrack which I still have in my chiptune playlist.

MobyGames says was released 1986 and [url=http://www.mobygames.com/game/r-type]R-Type 1988.

Searched game is R-Type.
