The only ones that I know of are Costume Quest and Batman Arkham Knight.

I get that it has a Halloween vibe, but it doesn't actually have anything to do with Halloween, or even reference Halloween, does it?

I'm amazed that there are so many creepy horror games being churned out all of the time, but almost none of them incorporate Halloween in any way. It seems like Halloween would provide some good ideas for a video game like it does for TV and movies. Plus, like with Halloween movies and TV episodes, Halloween video games would have the draw of people wanting to play them every Halloween.

I think there might only be a few obscure and very old video games that actually incorporate the Halloween holiday in any way, but I thought I would see what people could come up with. Thanks for the response.
I haven't actually played it. It was just the first game I thought about that reminded me of Halloween.

I'm the wrong person to ask about stories in games though. I focus on gameplay and visuals. I've played some games multiple times and I still don't know what their plots are.
Does Halloween Harry count for anything?
You can not get more Halloween themed than Halloween - http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-halloween_14523.html
Tony Tough and the Night of the Roasted Moths

It's about at detective trying to catch a pumpkin headed thief who is always active on Halloween.

Very good adventure, I don't know why we don't have it on GOG.

Trivia: It was also released originally on October 31.

Also the Darkside Detective has a Halloween themed episode

The Simpsons - Tapped Out currently has a Halloween Special going on as well :), same goes for most MMOs.

"Billy Masters was right" is not Halloween themed, but looks like one of the movies you would watch on Halloween with popcorn, it's about a teenager who thinks that his neighbors have been murdered.

The game doesn't even have to have a Halloween story. I am about to try Batman: Arkham Knight and I think it just takes place on Halloween and you see a lot of decorations and references to the holiday, but I don't think the story has anything to do with Halloween.

Wow. That's an old one. I don't think it does have anything to do with Halloween. Maybe that's why they changed the name to Alien Carnage. I'm not sure why Halloween was in the title other than maybe they thought Halloween could be a selling point. Maybe there's a reference to Halloween in there somewhere.

Kind of like the E.T. of Halloween games, huh? The video's hilarious.

Monks? :)

I can't believe the game is not made by the same people that made Day of the Tentacle. The similarity is remarkable. It looks like a good one.

Mr. Sarcastic: Monks? :)
Blame Freud :)
Corrected, thanks.
Telltale's Sam & Max Through Time & Space has a Halloween-themed episode "Night of the Raving Dead".

If you allow for community modules, there are some for Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2, for example
Samhain's Eve
Skullington Falls
Halloween

There are also some very nice Halloween-themed maps for Fight the Dragon, but that one's not available on GOG.

In general, I'm not too surprised that there are only few games that are explicitly holiday-themed, and that it's easier to find DLCs, mods, events. Tendentially you'd want to sell games that players would feel like playing all the time, independently of the date. I don't know that many Christmas-themed games either, and Christmas is even more widespread than Halloween (in my youth Halloween wasn't even a thing in Continental Europe, for example, it was imported from the US by individual geeks and corporations who saw an opportunity to monetize it).

That's a good point, but most people don't play games all of the time for an extended period. They usually move onto another game, and if they liked the previous game, may come back to it again in the future and play it again. A holiday themed game may be limited because of it's particular holiday theme, but people will often play those games every year at that particular holiday.

Maybe it's a poor analogy, but look at what happens every Christmas with Christmas themed movies. I don't think there are too many movies that get watched more than popular Christmas movies that are shown and watched over and over again throughout the Christmas season EVERY year even though they are decades old.

One more thing. Games like Batman: Arkham Knight are good to play during Halloween but are not directly about Halloween so they aren't limited in any way as far as people only wanting to play them at a certain time of year. I would be happy with more games like that.
