Well, I downloaded the newest patch for 2.0 and installed PL just to have it constantly crash at the RedEngine logo. I have heard others say that it doesn't crash while using galaxy. Well, two and two equal four. Go into you install directory and delete the Galaxy64.dll. The game launches flawlessly now. Thanks for nothing, GOG.
Removing/renaming the .dll fixes the issue with the game crashing most of the time on startup, but at least on the main menu the game no longer recognizes that Phantom Liberty is installed. Can't yet check ingame whether access to DLC areas is affected by this, but I doubt it.

Wait, did they tie the PL Expansion to flat-out require Galaxy?
Nah, probably just an oversight that will be fixed with the next patch or a dedicated hotfix even.
Relax.

OK. But would you not be better installing the game with galaxy and then backing up the game folder rather than using an offline installer? The offline installers are very slow.

The way this crap's going w/ DLC's tied to client service-app's like Epic (See The Outer Worlds' DLC's), Steam, and Galaxy even now - yeah, this isn't that good looking for DRM-FREE Fans.

We're going to need emulators just to make these client-app's along w/ the games for all of that content just to work offline - and even especially DLC's, in some cases.

Sad.

Is this done of purpose or by mistake from CD Red?

Great question. We don't know yet.
Hopefully, it was just a mistake and they'll fix it - but, who knows. [shrugs]

I did some testing and in my case it was the REDmod that caused it.

I tried this on a brand new laptop that never had cyberpunk or Galaxy. I installed latest CP2077 and it worked. I installed Phantom Liberty and it worked. I was able to start the game and even start the straight-to-expansion new game. Everything worked.

THEN I installed the REDmod and that's when it started crashing lol.

It doesn't matter if it was purposeful or not. We've seen it in tons of other titles to. That they CAN be done this way. That Galaxy APIs exist in ways that can cause this is problematic. And those, yes, were purposefully done that way. GOG should never have built the ability for their client to be used as or function like DRM at all. And all Galaxy API calls that remain should have soft failure states.

Yup. This is probably just a mistake that they will eventually fix... that shouldn't even be possible in the first place if their client wasn't coded in a way that gives it the possibility to be used as DRM.

Whoever designed Galaxy's backend really didn't give a rat's ass to DRM-free. It eventually shows.
