AgentBirdnest: ...
And a random question for everyone :
Have you been part of another online community? I mean, on a nearly daily basis, like here?
I used to frequent a C&C community about 12-14 years ago that formed from a group of Renegade players. Eventually they branched off into other games that I didn't really care about, and everyone started drifting apart. The website is still around though. Other than that, I haven't been too involved in any community until this one.
Aye, I've been an active participant in a few communities over the years. A few social sites, like Myspace doing writing and talking to other writers there, but I dropped that habit after face-book's rise...

Spent the most time in The Battlefield Singleplayer website and editing communities, since I was modding the old Battlefield games, spent over 2 years working on my own BF2 mega-mod, and did some editing on the old BF42 and Vietnam games too.

Plus I was active on the Mass Effect sites for awhile, until ME 3 got broken in. And in some game development sites when I was studying game design on my own, and bought a modest game engine back in the day to fiddle with. ;)

j0ekerr: Act of war looks good enough for a game at that price. But can anyone give me an informed opinion on what I'm going to find if I manage to get it?
It's very similar to C&C Generals, but it looks about 87x better. Like, really, the gameplay feels almost the same. Even a lot of units felt similar. It requires some smarter tactics though - you'll need a balanced army of different units. You can't just rush with 20 of unit X and destroy the enemy base. You need a combination of anti tank, anti infantry, anti building, anti air... It takes a bit more planning than a standard C&C game, but is (about) just as fun, in my opinion.
Haven't played through the campaign yet though, so no comment on the story, if it has one.

Good morning everyone,
Hoping everyone is doing well, and even better than expected... it seems my attempt to answer an earlier post was eaten by the forum, so I’ll wait a bit and see if it pops up, or rewrite the response to that post in a bit. ;/

And the sale continues...

Ah, good, my response to Agent's question didn't get eaten by the Forum after all. heh!

AgentBirdnest: unrelated edit : I am not looking forward to my next haircut... I've been losing a lot of hair over the last couple months. Not excited to see how thin it has gotten >:"|
avatar
ddickinson: Try not to let the hair loss get to you too much. With all you have been through recently it is bound to take its toll on your body. Hopefully you will keep feeling better and your hair will thicken up. but if not, don't let it get to you. There is nothing wrong with losing your hair, it happens to a lot of guys, and most women don't really mind at all. So don't let how you look worry you too much. Especially when there is little you can do about it. Just embrace who you are and be the best Agent you can be. That is what people will like about you, not your hair.

Oh, and my vote is you get a mohawk haircut. :-)

*big hug*
I totally +1 :) ... well said, DD !

And there are also many sexy guys without hair (or barely)... look at Bruce Willis !! ... or my partner, who looks even better than Bruce Willis :-)
But I understand your feeling, as my personal Bruce also can't help feeling bad about getting bald... even if he completely agrees that he looks much better now with his (almost) shaved head, than a few years ago with longer (and thicker) hair... well. Conclusion : you guys are never satisfied ;-p

Hurm, you've described fun mechanics, balanced gameplay that requires tactical thinking, and good graphics.

Sold! to the guy with the chamber pot on his head!

Now... we hunt!

Cool! :-D
I played a lot of BF back in the day (with my old community that I mentioned), and even tried* modding once.
(*downloaded and launched a map editor, had no idea where to start, and gave up ;-p)

Good morning, Ghost! Hope things are going well for you :-)

Ha, that's a good point... still, I'll miss it if/when it's gone up there *sniff*...
Now, if only all my back and arm hair would fall out too >:-p
And no. I'm never satisfied. Ever. That's why I keep buying games - I keep looking for the "perfect" one ;-)
Anyway, thanks for the kind words **extra-big hug**

Yeah, the map editor for the old BF42 was interesting, but it was hard to add bots to the maps, which I never did get the hang of doing. The BF2 editor was buggy but I was able to make a couple maps and add bots. Mostly both editors were good for changing vehicles and adding weapon pickup kits to scatter around the maps.

For BF2, I fully customized everything in the game, including re-balancing all the weapon damage, fire rates and bot behaviors, and added hundreds of other weapons and vehicles, making it play the way I liked. ')

Act of War also has a really good campaign to play through as well, definitely a must get if you like those kind of strategy games. :)

I've never played through the sequel though. Was really happy to get them both on GoG.

Just a quick visit to wish you all a lovely day, and a wonderful weekend. I have some awesome things planned for my weekend, and hopefully the sunny weather will stay for at least the weekend so that it won't spoil a few of my plans.

Take care, everyone, and have a great long weekend for those of you on holiday!

*big holiday hugs and silly weekend waves*
