ddickinson: "Enough games already"? You really will never be a hoarder with that attitude. :-)

The game that caught my eye was one of the FPS games, the one that reminded me and Agent of Half-Life, but I can't remember the name.
Hm....but we already have Crow for that job :P

Interesting...which reminds me that it would be really great to see Half-Life here but that's impossible i guess...

ddickinson: I guess it is safer for them that way, and I guess also a nice surprise for the regulars. I guess if not an Insomnia then some kind of regular sale perhaps.

Do they still let you change email without verification? I think they needed to improve a little more on the security front before storing cards and things. But it is also a bit sad. It means they did not add 2-factor for us, to protect us as we had asked for, it was just so they could store card information. Yet more examples of them not really caring about the community, perhaps.
It'll be Insomnia. The statement says that people might be compelled to click fast soon. There's nothing else event-wise it could be, given that hint.

Not sure on that one. I don't know all the specifics, but a quick skim through the other thread mentions how the new setup works.
Figuring they're adding on features so customers have the choice whether to use them or not. I stick with memorizing my info, but a lot of people don't want to be bothered with doing that, I'm sure.

But he might be lonely, so we need to find people to keep him company. :-)

It would be nice to see the game here. It doesn't really effect me as I still have Half-Life 1 and the two expansions on disc that still runs perfectly out of the box on Windows 7. But I am like that with most old games, like the C&C games. I tend to have them on CD still, but a digital backup would be nice during a sale.

Ixamyakxim: Released yet or on the way?
avatar
ddickinson: On the way. I think it was Requiem: Avenging Angel. And my Half-Life comment was just based on what the graphics reminded me of. I have no idea what the game really is or what it is like.
This was the one I was going to suggest if you said "on the way" - it's actually a VERY fun little game, and one I was looking forward to "back in the day." When it was released I had a blast with it and it's certainly worth picking up when it shows up here. I think I've even mentioned it in a threads here before as sort of a "forgotten" or lost or unknown gem.

Felt a bit like "Strife" in the sense that it had a bit of a central "hub" sort of layout. And a bit like a Metroidvania as well, in that I think I remember there being a need to get new powers to progress beyond certain points. And those powers were a lot of fun. Really a worthwhile game - and one I remember being fairly pretty at the time, so it should be decently easy on the eyes now (I find stuff that's really ugly / old to be a bit difficult to go back to now - I know, I know, what kind of Good Old Gamer am I?).

Well then, I hope you all get your wishes for a wonderful Insomnia sale. I know the community has been looking forward to one for a long time.

I do like that GOG keeps things optional. Hopefully they will keep it that way, with the site stuff and client stuff.

That is good to hear. Does the game have a nice story like Half-Life, or does it have a more Doom or Quake type thing with little story? Not that I dislike either of those, but I do tend to prefer story driven FPS games.

I never played Strife, but I hear it was a good game. I do not tend to mind graphics as much as I mind dated mechanics. But then I am not really a gamer who plays all the modern games with their impressive visuals, so older graphics don't really bother me. Within reason. I guess with all the indie games being lazy and using "retro" graphics then the older games will start looking less outdates. :-)

That's true ... well already not too far behind him :)

Certainly. Despite having them on that other digital platform ;)
Same with the C&C games. Got the uncensored versions on Origin but i'd also love to see them here :)

I just want a crack at a few more list items while getting to enjoy people gradually losing their minds for a few days.
Seeing someone say that they missed the 15 second purchase window on a game they'd waited 8 hours for because they had to finally get up and go to the bathroom is fucking hilarious. =)
It gets even better when that's the one title they were waiting on, so they feel compelled to sit through the next round, just to get another crack at it.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I seem to think it has, something to do with cyborgs?, but was C&C censored in Germany?

I would like a digital Red Alert 1 that is fixes so that it does not make my computer run so hot. Red Alert 2 does that as well, but not Red Alert 2's expansion. I am not sure if C&C original or Tiberian Sun also do this, but for some reason the Red Alerts came to mind over the overheating.

That is true, but then we also get the leeches, the usually "oh no, I missed the game" by new users hoping the generous members will gift them a game. Just look at last years summer sale that brought a huge amount of scammers here. I just hope that this year we can avoid all the drama with scammers and things. They just spoil all the fun.

Oh it was. C&C got the full treatment. Out of all C&C games only C&C Red Alert 2, Renegade, Tiberium Wars and Red Alert 3 were not censored. Every other game "enjoyed" the replacement of humans with Cyborgs..... :(

Hm..have you tried OpenRA ?

I played a demo for Red Alert 3. I made it just past the intro and the first few spoken words of the tutorial and I just stopped. It was just too stupid and kind of racist. I did not mind Red Alert 2, I wish they had kept it serious like Red Alert 1, but the gameplay of Red Alert 2 was good so it made up for the silly storyline.

I was told about OpenRA, but I thought it was mainly for multiplayer, not for the single player campaigns.

It doesn't bother me a bit.
Very simple rules - I stay awake guzzling coffee and gibbering until my heart's ready to explode within my chest, just to get a chance at outrunning every other sleep-deprived, caffeine spiked half-loon, they do the same and we see who wins.
It's a game, and people lose games all the time. I'm going to focus on making sure it's not me or someone I already know and give a shit about who ends up losing.
If I don't know the person, odds are pretty good that I won't be bothered to give half a flying fist fuck, no matter how many tiny violins they break out in an effort to make me change my mind.
Their whining will only serve as an audible nectar of suffering, a way to giggle that much harder when I'm already halfway to hallucinating from being up for 4 days straight.

Openra also offers the campaigns. Its actually a graphical update to hd resolutions

Don't know what the demo included but i actually played the Soviet and most of the Allied Campaign of RA3. It is pretty dumb. The idea of having a Co-op campaign was not bad but not really good executed imho...
Yes i totally agree. The gameplay of 2 was definitely superior to 1 but the story of RA1 was better (despite the horrible German accent ^^)... :)

I am picturing you having told all your house mates to not bother you for the duration. Then you grab your supplies, board up the windows and block your door. Then just sit there guzzling coffee and laughing manically as you enjoy the sale. :-)

Some of the indies are PAINFUL for me to look at. I also tend to dislike pixel graphics - HOWEVER some do a nice job WITH pixel graphics. As a rule I'm not a fan, but I'm always impressed when I find / see an indie that uses them well and to good effect.

I don't remember too much of the story, but there IS one there that much I remember. Hunting other Fallen Angels, that I think were infiltrating and running the government? So your character, said angel falls in with a "Resistance" if I remember correctly.

The game also had a REALLY well done setting - when you hear "angel returned to Earth" you DON'T think dystopian mechanized future - but that's exactly what this game did. Without going over the top with it - felt very natural and really (I remember more of the "feel" of it than I do the niceties and details of the actual content - so probably so - so story with good atmosphere).
