CarrionCrow: It was a lot of fun, looking forward to having it to watch whenever I want.

I was going to make a (bad) joke of some kind about painting little models of fire, but I'm curious - what kinds of models do you do, exactly?
Hm.... maybe i used a wrong translation (?)
I mean, I configure a fire modeling (?) software (entering data as : buildings size and materials, what kind of stuff they content and in which amounts...), and then, the software makes calculations and gives me back some ugly graphics with different colors, each corresponding to different heat-flows risk areas... (i don't feel like i'm being clear at all).

moonshineshadow: *laugh* Yep, the jumping is irritating, but despite that, the game was fun.
avatar
CarrionCrow: Indeed. Kept feeding the little bugger into a saw blade when it got too annoying, the logic behind that being, "If you refuse to jump over it, I'll be happy to assist you with jumping into it!!!!"
Yep, the "just go and die" response :D

Anything I can do to help brighten your Monday?
I don't know... do you sell drugs ? ;-p

AgentBirdnest: Hmmmm 8-þ,'',',',' ... I had one bar left of Cote d'Or that I kept hesitating to eat. I finally used it to make hot chocolate just yesterday, before it got too old and tasteless. I think it was the best tasting cup of hot chocolate ever... *sigh* u__u
Avec plaisir! Glad to help out with the subway. A boring job suddenly becomes fun when you have company :-) Let me know if you'd like any more help.
It should be fine... there is not much left to do. Thanks !

No, not at all. You didn't do anything wrong. I didn't know what exactly you were modeling, and the thought of you sitting there painting little plastic bits in shades of red, orange and yellow is what first came to mind.

That makes sense. You run scenarios to see which sections of buildings will be most damaged by fire, based on the components of those buildings.
(If that's incorrect, it's not you, it's just me not getting the concept. It happens a fair bit. ;) )

I know it well. Used to do that with Meat Boy from time to time until my mind cracked a little and I stopped doing anything but almost subconsciously learning death by death how to alter my reaction time to the point that I didn't die anymore.

Ho, phew :)
Yes... and then I can tell the customers at which distance of their building they can store other flamable materials, so if the first spot gets on fire, the flames won't spread on the entire site and ruin everything.

Okay. That all makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to explain it. =)

CarrionCrow: Well, for me, the puzzles are interesting, and the combination of black and white mixed with just the bare essentials of sound, not out of laziness, but to enhance the experience, works for me.
I mentioned before that the character's bad jumping is irritating, but it's appropriate for the game. I'm just bitchy due to murderously, maddeningly difficult platformer-related PTSD.

Yeah, that's the essence of the independent style, when you peel away all the nostalgia barrel-scraping hacks who use an emotionally manipulative trick due to having absolutely nothing of their own to say or present.
Which is something many don't do, an aesthetic to compliment the game, rather than just using it as a lazy approach. I have played a few games with a simple visual style that proved to be a very good game, but then I have seen even more that do that just to be lazy or try to make their game seem more artsy. But I am glad to hear you are enjoying the game for the most part.

Nope, no drugs. Maybe some coffee? Is chocolate a drug?

*big encouragement hug for the lovely Owl*

Weaving all the components together seems to be too challenging for a lot of people. They opt for laziness, then try to conceal said laziness with pretentiousness.

But I guess they must be selling. Just look at a lot of the more recent games on GOG, quite a few seem to be these poorly optimised retro inspired pixel games. Granted someone more into those kind of games will probably disagree, but for the majority of the time all these pixel games just look the same to me, they all seem like the same kind of game with the same kind of graphics and they just sort of blend together, with very few standing apart as something special.

Apart from minor variations, they're identical. It's the same "inspiration" from 8 and 16-bit consoles, time after time.
Things that stand out will continue to be comparatively rare, since something new can't use the nostalgia tactic.

Red Pandas are the best kind of Pandas, no matter what Moon says ;-). Plus regular black and white Pandas are just grumpy. :-)
Red Pandas remind me a little of foxes, which we get quite a few of and they are very cute as well, especially the cubs.

It is also the gameplay that seems so similar as well, all the rouge-lite platformer and RPG games just look the same, I guess as they are trying to milk some nostalgia from a previous game. Sadly many of the unique ones probably get buried under all the crap, or overlooked as just another retro pixel game made to look like it was made 20 years ago yet that has system specs higher than many modern 3D games.
