CarrionCrow: Additional - One more badly controlling platforming section out of the way. Screw you, game.
*sigh I know the feeling. I had to put I-War 2 to bed last night :( Which was a total shame because I was REALLY enjoying it and I love playing with my flightstick. I HATE games that I'm really enjoying otherwise, but that I hit a frustration level with. The ones that suck I just quit, but the ones that have a lot going for them otherwise always make it difficult for me not to go back (hence my previous two nights of frustration).
There is a mission in game with a minute and a half travel time, followed by three minutes of unskippable dialogue BEFORE I can even engage in the mission proper. And then I get blown up. I have to dock at each of six weapon platforms in turn during ~14 second "windows" when they aren't firing, to deactivate them. The trouble - my ship has ~2 or 3 second cutscene for both undocking AND docking during which time I can be blasted to pieces without being able to do anything should the guns come online.
The first night I was able to get 1 or 2 routinely, once in a while 3. By last night, I couldn't even land at 1 with regularity. And keep in mind EVERY time I die, it's almost 5 minutes of the same nothing lead in over and over again. Sucks, as I really liked the game.
I feel like I'm playing an old JRPG, where you have to watch an unskippalbe 10 minute cutscene before fighting a boss that casts Para-All the first round of combat LOL.
I realized I really need a flight sim. I want something like Privateer, but a bit more modern and it just isn't out there. I have a disc copy of X3 and while it was a TON of fun, I found myself wishing it were a bit less "send your 14 trading ships spreadsheet management" and a bit more "shoot shoot bang bang" ;) I didn't MIND the economic sim, and the prospect of building an empire and commanding capital vessels was tempting.
But at the end of the day I felt like I was at the stick for 5 seconds, sending ship to point A, at the stick 5 more seconds *ping* send ship B to point Z, at stick.... send ship to ... you get the idea ;) Got tedious really quickly.
