I knw this isn't a tech thread but my PC is acting all funky (I'm using my dad's notebook right now).

I rebooted it after doing a scan and it gives me the "Please Wait While Windows is Starting". That lasted for an hour so I turned it off and then on again.

It came back with "Please Wait while WIndows Installs Updates: 35% Complete". I waited an hour, and nothing, so I turned off and on again.

It comes back with the same "Update: 35%" thing. An hour later it switches to "Shutting Down". I wait half an hour, nothing, so I turn off and on again, and it comes back with "Update: 35%" eventually going switching to "Shutting Down". That's where I am now,

Any ideas?

It turns out that there's a setting in the game that tries to shove Direct X 11 into the mix. That has the lovely effect of turning the game into utterly chopped, unplayable dog shit.
But, if you go into a certain config file and tell the game to stop using anything related to it, it actually works properly.
Not super smooth, all bells and whistles for me, since my graphics setup is still bad, but it runs decently now.

Well, I'm definitely not a super tech person, but what I'd try to do is get it into safe mode, something to bypass the update lockup.
Also thinking that the shutdowns and restarts in the middle of whatever crap Windows is trying to do might mess it up more overall.
More than anything, though? I'd suggest coming back around when you've got smarter people to ask than me. ;)
(Well, since EIT's around, there is a person who's smarter than me already around. But he's sick as hell, might not be in shape for tech support.)

But shouldn't it throw you directly to Windows when you power-off the computer and thus interrupting the update process when you turn it on again?
An option might be to use to use boot repair from the OS disc...

I'd remove the battery, then plug it back in, and THEN turn it on.

Oh yeah, especially since I have done my absolute best to avoid any DX beyond 9. Kinda obvious at that point why the game wasn't working.

Just popping in to say ARRRGGHH.

I emailed Obsidian earlier this week about the lack of upgrade options for Pillars of Eternity. They responded earlier this morning and said, in part:

"...currently GOG doesn't have the upgrade option, but it may be something they introduce in time through GOG Galaxy. Unfortunately we are unsure on when that would happen. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."

REALLY?

I spent quite some time composing a lengthy response that included a complete list of all games that offer edition upgrades on GOG (or at least, those with the word "upgrade" in them; bless Magog), some explanation that piracy shouldn't be a concern, or those of us who've been waiting since last May would've already gone off and pirated them and stopped asking for the option to upgrade, and pointed out that offering upgrade options on Steam but not here just makes no sense.

I expect, at most, a response email of bland nothings, but still. That initial response actually makes no sense whatsoever. *shaking my head*

I say you either choke the power button and try again, or attempt to boot it in safe mode and solve it from there.

I'm seeing very quickly why you're probably nursing a stupidity exposure headache.

Pretty much. I got VERY wordy in my response and edited it about ten times to keep it very polite. I also pointed out that, per GOG (who would hopefully know!), Galaxy is supposed to be completely optional except for certain games' multiplayer options and has nothing whatsoever do to with upgrading between game editions. I specifically pointed out that the Lords of Xulima upgrade is quite similar to their different editions; I probably should've pointed out Wasteland 2, since that was made by a more comparable company. Oh well.

Then I realized that the person answering their "support" email was their Social Media Manager. *sigh*

Well i personally never had issues DX10/11 but i also used DX9 quite long. But in that cae it is really annoying that the game doesn't give you the choice despite being able to use DX9....
But then again i'm not a huge fan of the DX in general...

Now it's telling me "Failure Configuring Updates, Reverting Changes"

Been doing that for 20 minutes or so.
