Well I was teaching Maths to others during school for enough hours that I got enough money to buy myself a computer, I might find a way to explain it ;-)
(no garanties, but if you want I can try)

ElTerprise: The question is: Do i want to know the ingredients of the green fluid? ;)

Well let's hope the negative effects will be gone in no time :)
It's just Nyquil. Cold remedy that's very popular since it will almost always knock you out cold after drinking it.
(Unless you're some giant weirdo who drinks three bottles at a time, and still can't get to sleep...)

Empress_Owl: You're too intelligent. I offer you a job !! :-) payed in garlic snails, frog legs, coffee, and hugs !

ElTerprise: For a shot in the dark? That's too generous :)
But a brilliant shot ! :-))

ElTerprise: Is the non-primeval version still not working?
It is still completely broken. So now I've just got a tab on Chrome open with Skype 24/7. Don't want to assume for even a second that I'll be able to reconnect after shutting it down.

I think that's not available here :)

Sorry to hear that. Not even reinstalling the damn thing helped?

I don't get it.
10X - 6X = 2X - 6

Okay, here's the original question when you turn the word-based stuff into just numbers.

4X = 2X - 6

You get to this because 10x and 6x are the same type of quantity, even if the exact quantity is unknown at the moment. Given that, you can just subtract.

4X - 2X = -6

You end up here because the 2x and 4x are the same quantity type, so you can slice out the 2x on both sides and not mess anything up. You're removing the same amount on both sides since they're both x.

2X = -6

At this point, it's straight multiplication with a single negative number involved. You've got one positive and one negative, so the result will be negative. 2 times 3 equals 6, 2 times negative 3 equals negative 6.

X = -3

After the multiplying, you end up with the final answer.

(Or at least, that's how I just processed it.)

Empress_Owl: Thanks again... :)
Hours ?? ô__ô .... strange... but at least it worked :-)
=)

Definitely, especially since no settings were changed, nothing was altered. It just decided to stop working.

Yeah, if I'd noticed the other option sooner, I wouldn't have spent hours fighting with the desktop version.

Probably for the best. The stuff's fairly vile, and it really only works to knock people unconscious.

Lost count of reinstalls after 6. None of them did anything.

Glad you could sort everything out and have some nice time chatting anyway :))
It's always pissing when technology doesn't want to work properly... !

I see...

Hm...sounds a bit like broken config files or something like that. Purging of the Skype folder in AppData/Roaming didn't help either?

Math is one of those things I'd actually go back to school to do more of, whether it was needed as part of a degree or not. I can do the basic stuff in my head with a mental visualization version of scratch paper, but I ended up missing a lot of stuff when my initial schooling went sideways.

Yes, the voice chats are always enjoyable, so I'm really glad it finally worked out.

What annoys me is when it breaks for absolutely zero discernible reason. That's the most obnoxious aspect of it all.
If I was digging around in settings I didn't understand, something like that, there'd be a concrete, logical reason.

Did that after the second reinstall, with zero positive result.
I'm thinking it's sporadic failure on Microsoft's part since I noticed more than a few people scattered in different countries saying their Skype had also gone inexplicably shitty for a few days.

It's baffling. It doesn't make any sense at all...seems like a failure on Microsoft's side....

I learned a long time ago - if you don't know what something is or exactly what it does, don't frigging touch it.
As such, I didn't suddenly modify net settings, change things with my firewall, anything like that.
Given that, it's got to be something on their end.

Well that is a way of handling it. Given that it must be on their end. I mean that is just great....
