j0ekerr: Speaking of alcohol I have geology this semester.
The professor has already stablished that he can be bribed with beer.
Good to know. Your task over the semester can be to lower their standards, so they're happy with cheaper and cheaper beer.

Ixamyakxim: That's a letdown - I know I do enjoy a drink every now and again. Not to tempt you but did you ever find anything as interesting as the odd flaming heat liquor you mentioned once?
Well, I hadn't intended to have a drink. More like a couple bottles.

No, not really. I'm sure there are more interesting things around than that. It ended up being pretty monotonous since it brought two things to the party - a lot of sweetness and not nearly enough heat.

Ixamyakxim: Believe it or not, when I made my terrible joke above I was actually reminded of an exchange between you and another user a while back - it went on quite a while and got a few laughs out of me.
Glad to see you enjoyed it. That really rocks.
Morningium!

Crow, hope you are feeling better already! ... as I read back to what's last night for me and things seemed a bit dark.
Which is alright too... Everybody goes to the dark side sometimes. The trick is how and why to come back from there...

I myself probably, honestly, should have gone to therapy back in the day... Since my methods of dealing with big problems used to be in my late teens and early twenties... mostly to get pissed drunk.
Not saying drinking can't be fun... Just wish I'd checked my motivation behind it.

also, dammit... Umberto Eco kicked the bucket...

Hey everyone, this is my first time here, and I actually just had something on my mind that I wanted to talk to someone about, even though it's... I mean... Everyone knows that feeling, and yet nobody can accurately talk about it without it sounding pretentious or misguided. Still, I want to let it go!

I just wanted to say that, even though I am more of a lurker than a poster, I really, really appreciate these forums and (probably) all of you. I always had a bit of a problem living with social media and the constant connectedness of it all, because I tend to lose myself in it. You start losing yourself in junk information and small details. Worst of all though is that I lose that ability to see people as people, rather than as their Facebook or Twitter profiles or comments on Youtube videos. Communication really devolves as a result.

The GoG forums, on the other hand, are a different world entirely. So much that I read on here is very human, written with some sort of purpose. Rarely do I see conversations devolve into meme-posts and trolling; these concepts seem absolutely alien on here. This is a digital space where people still talk to one another like people, and it reminds me of going on the internet for the first time in 2000 and joining chatrooms and forums to talk to others. I made some real-life friends using those, and I hope that that human-aspect of digital conversations will not be lost entirely.

Again, sorry for the awfully pretentious and oh-so-involved post. I just really wanted to say that I enjoy it on here :)
So... Thanks!

Cardskeeper: ..zipety-zip...
Hello!
A very cool way of putting it :)
I'm... almost proud to be part of Fred (however rarely) - as in this Thread :)
It's true that things can go terribly wrong on the internet - and at that point the place can be forgotten when people just give up and probably those who remain are just trolling and not really 'acting as people would' or something like that.
But yeah with some effort and some bright ideas the internet could be a whole different thing - fun and caring ;)

This is basically the reason I chose to stick around. It's the one forum where everybody seems intelligent and kind. Despite all the scammers and trolls and whatnot, it's worth it for the actual good people who're here. This is basically the only real "social media" I actively engage in, since there's really no place quite like this one.

9 foot tall surgically and genetically enhanced superhuman would have been my first choice though.
You don't happen to like orange soda, do you? ;-)

I might not know the specifics, but in broad strokes, I understand completely.

Can't complain here. Just another late night. Finished off another mediocre independent game, now digging around for the next thing to play.

Yeah I am also trying to decide what to play next. Some days I think it would be easier if I owned fewer games. Most of the days it is more like "damn why does nothing seem so interesting that I want to play it at once" :D

Only if it's been blessed by the light of the emperor.

-laughs- That sounds very familiar. That compelling factor just isn't there, for whatever reason.
