Empress_Owl: Nobody can understand that...
I don't know what can be done, unfortunately... if the answer was easier to find, it wouldn't happen anymore... :-( **sigh**
(ban guns could be a good start, honnestly... but it wouldn't be enough... just would make it less easy, so there wouldn't be as many shootings "on impulse"...)
Hum... I guess you are right :-(
I used to love guns, when I was a teen. I'd go target shooting out in the desert with my friends often. But I can't hold a gun these days. Doesn't feel right to me anymore. I'd be fine seeing them banned.

FearfulSymmetry: Richard & Alice was one of the first few games I got on GOG. It's been ages since I played it but I remember quite enjoying it.

*big hug*
I liked the story, and the change of events towards the end. It was a little predictable, but still fun.

How are you, lovely Fearful?

Hey DD !...
I didn't remember about Richard & Alice... **read the page**... it sounds quite sad, indeed... not as low resolution as "the last door" :) hihi... i enoyed that one... nice storry and atmosphere, despite the huge pixels (I remember wondering if a dude were on fire at some point e___e...)
(ok... won't ask...)
Just give you a **big, warm, comforting hug** before I go to bed...
I hope your mind will be lighter tomorrow... take care... !! :-|

I did not like the game as much as I did The Last Door, but it is a similar kind of game. Mostly story based with a little interaction. I remember being put off at first with The Last Door, but someone gifted me the game and once I tried it I really enjoyed it. Hopefully it will be finished some day and will be here on GOG.

Since you are going to bed I will wish you a lovely night, with lots of sweet dreams!

*big thank you hug*

ddickinson: Good evening, Mr Agent!

How are you? Did you have a nice party on Endre's lawn? :-)

I was not too sure about Richard and Alice at first, I am not really keen on the very low quality pixel art stuff. But it was quite enjoyable, just like The Last Door which also had low quality graphics. It is a little predictable, but still fun, and there are worse games you could get for the price.

Are you enjoying the sale, pick up anything nice?

*big thank you hug*
I'm doing pretty well. Quite tired (a bit earlier than usual), but good otherwise. (And we left Endre's lovely lawn alone for his birthday ;-))

I usually don't mind low-quality graphics. I'm a Wadjet Eye fan, after all :-) Not that those games have ugly graphics - no way - they look absolutely lovely to me, but on a technical level they are quite "dated". Quality stories often make me appreciate the graphics more, too.

Haven't picked anything up yet, no. Maybe I'm finally becoming sane ;-)

I am glad to hear that. *big hug*

I don't really mind how the graphics are, but I do think there should be a basic level of quality. Some games like those we have mentioned have great stories that work well with the graphics, but there are many games that don't have a great story. For some reason Richard and Alice's graphic stile reminded me of a lower quality South Park.

Well you still have a few days of the sale to go, so there is plenty of time for you to see something you really like.

Yeah, that's the key...
Additionally, I like the music, sound, and voiceovers to match the quality of the graphics. Having low-definition graphics with high-definition music can be a bit weird. I like my low-graphic games with MIDI (or similar sounding) music :-)

*slightly insane hug*

I'm doing fine, thank you. Finally finished reading a book for a class this Friday. It was quite lengthy so I'm happy to be done with it. :)

There are no voiceover in Richard and Alice, sadly, but the music is very nice and helps add to the atmosphere of the game. We will probably try the Blackwell games soon, so I will let you know what I think of them.

That is good to hear. I definitely don't miss all that kind of stuff from my university days. It was okay when it was a book I liked, but often they were very dull. :-)

How are you liking the sale so far?

I'm posing a lot, playing Dragon Quest and Darksiders and poking fun at some stuff.
ALmost forgot, wrapping my head around on how the hell do I install the Earthsiege\Tribes games because Hi Rez released them as freeware but didn't optimized them to actually run on modern OSs,just released the ISOs and called it a day.
Hi, everyone! I think I might finally be settled a bit, so I wanted to pop in. It's been a while! I've had some pretty major family things going on, so for the next month-plus, I'm several hours north of where we currently live, staying with my grandparents.

To put this in context: My grandparents raised me, and I'm very close to all of my aunts/uncles/cousins, regardless of generation. A little over a month ago, my great-uncle (grandfather's brother) was in a car accident and fractured two of his vertebrae. He had surgery and has since finished rehab and is doing great. About five days later, my grandfather had a stroke. Within the day, he was taken to hospital, had the blood clot removed, and had managed to speak a little. He got home from rehab about a week ago and has recovered greatly - good mobility, good speech, some short-term memory problems, and some speech problems, but doing sooo much better than any of us had feared. Shortly after that, my best friend had to have an MRI to determine the cause of her head pains - that fortunately turned out to be something relatively minor, and is treatable with medication.

So. Due to all of this, I've had a lot of things on my mind besides forums or gaming. This week, things seem to be calming down, and I'm finally trying to get back into what little social activities I have. It's nice to be back where I consider "home," although under a much different set of circumstances than I would have preferred!

Hopefully everyone else has had a much better November and has a very good December indeed. (Soo glad that month is over!).

I got the Earthsiege games too. However I don't know when I'll play them. :-)
You will need dosbox to properly install some of these games.

Definitely true. This book is divided in two distinctive styles/genres, and while I liked one half I thought the other part of the book was very boring.

It's quite nice. I finally went and got Dreamfall Chapters even though I haven't finished the earlier games yet. I also got one mystery game just for the excitement of having a surprise. I got a King's Bounty game, which is not something I would have purchased for myself, but I might fire it up at some point. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the sale, although I'll try not to buy much as I've already spent too much money on frivolous things. :P

Forgot that DOS is just as user friendly as the early Wizardry games so I'm stuck.
