AgentBirdnest: Sounds lovely :-) *clinks my hot chocolate to your tea* ;-p

...
My favourite Disney movie was always Robin Hood :-)
Yup and thanks :P *re-clinks*
Just found that :D

FearfulSymmetry: One of the older ones, I have many of those. Just popped in Beauty and the Beast. :) I do enjoy the newer animated ones as well, but I don't own them all.

Haha, Or haven't started it yet, but it's kind of lengthy so I fear I won't be able to finish it in time.
avatar
ElTerprise: Yes. Really like some the older ones - childhood memories :P

I see....good luck that you're able to finish reading it in time though :)

avatar
FearfulSymmetry: How's it going with your job? Still busy?
avatar
ElTerprise: Yes and it will be busy until the end - which is in about two weeks :)
Definitely. I think they still hold up very well.

Then I wish you good luck with all that. :)

Excellent choice, I really like that one. Have you ever seen the great mouse detective?

Yes! That was one of my favourites as a mini-Agent... I can't really remember it though :-( I'll have to watch it again.
I also loved The Rescuers and The Rescuers: Down Under :-)

Yes! I have it on dvd and it's still great. :D

I agree! I always watched those with my dad since they were his favorites. And the soundtrack to the first one is awesome.

Well i guess the classic animation might age better than computer animation - similar to models and CGI in live action movies (i mean for example the effects from 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968 still look gorgeous imho :) )

Thank you. Unless we're getting a real winter everything should be fine :P

(and it perfectly fitted there)

Fantasia was made in 1940 and it still looks bloody beautiful.

The first Toy Story has aged about as well as a ham left on a radiator.

Most of the old ones still look beautiful.

Same as old CGI in general.

One could also expand that to games. 2D games usually age better then 3D games.

I disagree about movies - somewhat. I think some of the older stuff (mid-90s) still looks great today. Thinking of Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Twister, and some (not all) of the stuff in Terminator 2.
I guess everyone sees it differently, though. Personally, I still can't tell when the T-Rex is a puppet or not in the first two Jurassic Park movies.

These are all parts of movies though, not entire movies like Toy Story...

But Jurassic Park was many dinosaurs were animatronic - which isn't CG. But yes the movies you mentioned still look good today. I wonder if ILM was responsible for the effects in all of those movies.

But wasn't only referring to big blockbuster movies. Even nowadays model-based effects or the aforementioned animatronic can look more convincing than CG.

For example compare Escape from New York with Escape from L.A.....(aside from the second one being a subpar sequel) the CG in that one looks really weak while Escape from New York still looks quite good.
I often prefer the older Don Bluth movies over Disney when it comes to the American animation studios. I guess some of my faviorite Disney movies would be Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, and The Black Cauldron. I think Disney are very overrated compared to some of the lesser know studios such as Don Bluth or Studio Ghibli. Not to mention how many of their films, especially newer ones and the live action ones, are just terrible. Of course, that is just my opinion, so don't get mad if you do like them. :-)

Good evening, everyone!

I hope you are all doing well?

Yeah, much of JP was animatronic, but still some CG - like the T-Rex chasing the jeep - obviously that part had to be CG, but it still looks pretty real to me ê__ê
ILM did the effects for Jurassic Park, Twister, and Terminator 2 - I have no idea about Independence Day. (I used to be quite a nerd on this subject, back before every movie used CGI :-p)

Great point about Escape. Same could be said for Star Wars (old movies vs. the prequels). On the other hand, Terminator 2 looked significantly better than Terminator 1 when it came to effects, in my opinion.

I guess my whole point is that some movies got CGI right back then. I think when movie makers had to use CGI, as opposed to using it just because they could and it was easy, it looked better. If that makes any sense :-p
[/random rambling] :-)

I agree! The Land Before Time, An American Tail, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Titan AE are some of my all-time favourite movies. Only Disney's Robin Hood ranks as high as those for me.

Good evening :-)

Black Cauldron had a very similar feeling to some of Don Bluths works. I really liked it, much darker than the usual princess stuff Disney does.

Hello, Mr Agent!

How are you this lovely evening?

I'd never even heard of Black Cauldron ô__ô *looks it up* Huh. Wikipedia says it didn't even get released on home video until 13 years after it's theatrical release. Must be why I never saw it :-/

I'm doing really well this evening. I'm on a special training assignment from my supervisor - to play Puzzle Agent, which she was kind enough to gift me ;-)
It's a very nice little game so far. Funny and cute. (Yes, guys can call things cute! :-))

How about yourself?

It is really good, if I remember correctly. It was very different from the usual Disney stuff, which is probably why it did not do well. Here is the trailer:

I am doing very good, thank you. I was supposed to go for a nice meal at a restaurant with some friends, but they said we should just go to theirs, that way I would not feel bad if I was not up to it all. So we had something nice to eat and a pleasant time catching up at their home, which was very nice. Then I had a lovely evening with my partner once we got home. And I got my goodish news earlier as well, so today has been a good day overall.

As Earthworm Jim would say, "Groovy!" Not a musical or comedy at all, for once! Looks like something I'd really enjoy :-)

And it's very great to hear about your lovely evening! Hope the rest goes well too.
