Personally I think German is a rather pleasant language; There are often German tourists in the neighbourhood with us being that close to the border, and I can't help being benignly amused when they're speaking. I also think that most Scandinavian languages are very funny, a bit more singsong at times.

AgentBirdnest: Huh... sounds cool. I don't know about it. I only buy space games, I don't play them :-)

:-O ... Instabuy! Instabuy!! I want it I want it!!

ElTerprise: You're welcome.
Seems so, eh? :)

But while i'm not a huge fan of Schiller the poem is a real masterpiece :)
I am just being silly about German being made up. It is a very nice language, it can sound very sweet, but then super angry as well, even if the person is not meaning it to sound angry. At least it can sound that way to non-German speaking people.
Merry Afternoon, Hugstantonopolians!

Me and my wife are quite tired but happy after weekend has arrived and work is over...

Hey, EIT cool to see Schiller here :) A beautiful verse there!

I studied some philosophy back in the day. Schiller had some connection with the Great Modern Philosophers (TM) :)

Do you want me to go back and take Agent of my 77,777th post and put you there instead?

*big cheer up hug*

P.S. Do the French refer to France as a female or a male (motherland or fatherland type of thing)?
avatar
ddickinson: You could always dedicate it to her, stick up a flag and say you conquer that post for France and her Owl Empress!

Is France a he or a she? I know many places call their homeland a he as they think it sounds more manly. I know the US refers to theirs as a man, we refer to ours as a woman, I think Germany was also a male during the war but I am not sure about in general, and Russia is a female. [/end random silly thought]
I don't know... I didn't even know America was a man ô__ô I've never heard it referred to as a he or she.

Well it's Fatherland here - but Germany is/was represented as a female national personification - Germania. For example here - during the 1848 revolution.

No, thanks... I only like the special posts numbers which include 4 and its multiples, like : 444, 888, 4 000, 4 400, 4 444, 8 000, 8 800, 8 888... Yeah, it's an odd habbit, I don't care. >:'-|
France is a "she"... La France.

Also, good afternoon Vnlr, and Sup, and anyone else I'd forget :)
**Big hugs**

That might be true. On a lot of the old war propaganda the US was always represented by a man, Uncle Sam, I think it was. But that is why I asked as I was unsure.

That sounds a bit confusing. So it is a guy who dresses up as a woman? Or just a guy who couldn't be bothered to get up for work so sent his wife instead? :-)

America is very much a she, we protect her not him.
She is beautiful, nurturing, fickle and unpredictable. (place little American flag here)

Thank you for telling me. I guess some countries just use a he during wartime?

Good morning! How are you feeling today?

Well all personifications of German States and Germany itself are female but the country was referred to as fatherland (but as neutral gender -> "Das Vaterland") but yes is confusing. But then again there is also the Deutscher Michel (although he represents the Germans rather than Germany)

Hello :)
Nice to hear that - people often claim that German sounds very rough and whil that might sometimes be the case it can sound very pleasent.

Oh yeah, that guy... He usually represents the government, but not necessarily the whole country.
I think the statue of liberty is a bigger symbol of the country, and she is a woman.
I dunno... I'm just an Agent :-p
