j0ekerr: Good moaning folks.

Aaand another afternoon wasted. And xmas is looming and I'm running out of time and maybe I should start panicking...

Actually let's not.

Hurm a card game on the front page? Looks nice, it also looks like the kind of thing that you'd really enjoy playing on the phone or tablet while on commute.

Too bad I drive. I mean, I could still try to play it on my commute of course. I place that card here aaaand...WATCH OUT FOR THAT TRUCK!!!
There's no reason to panic believe me I do have heavy panic disorder stuff going on but not because of end of the year altough that seems to accelerate it a bit.. Think positive and positive things happen to you.. Now.. if i would believe that myself.. but i'm working on it.
Hi purple.

Hope your days have been good so far. :-)

Are there any geniuses here? I'm attempting to get a GOG game working on Android and its like trying to tap dance without a floor. I'm also about as Android-literate as a pineapple, so I have an immediate and potentially insurmountable problem to add to the.....problem.

Anyone got GOG going Androidy? If you have I could do with a few pointers... :-)

Wut?
I could try to help. But I'd be mostly guessing so don't expect any absolutes.
What game and how are you even attempting to do that?
Let me just say in advance that to run one of the games in your GOG library on android you need one of the following:
A: A virtual machine software.
B: An interpreter for that particular game.

Day was fine although my evening went different than expected.

I've got DosBox Turbo and Manager installed on my tablet - apparently all you need to get GOG games working - and a pretty broad selection of DosBoxy games ready to install to PC and transfer across. I've read and followed tutorials until they're coming out of my ears, all without success, so I'm in that 'at a complete loss' state that I hear precedes yelling and kicking the furniture. Its been an 'interesting' day....

I'm good, if a little frustrated. Have you had any dealings with Android thingamys and getting GOG games to work on them? I feel like Mr Spock because it all seems so very illogical.

Hurm, nope. Can't really help there I know next to nothing about Android.
Do you at least know what sort of error code it's giving you? Why the games won't load or how do they crash?
Also, while it looks cool and all, trying to control something designed for mouse and keyboard on an android device is a pain, and the virtual controls are always absolute shite.

Glad to hear that (that you're doing good of course) - nope can't help you there - the only device which has Android is my smartphone and i rarely play on it - but only some Playstore games....

Edit: Maybe creating a thread in the main forum might help. I guess that some forum members might help you with it...

I've been meaning to try that for some time. I'll try to get to it sooner rather than later and see what luck I have.
From what I've read it works........sometimes.

The errors so far are that after all of the rigmarole of getting the thing set up as its supposed to be the tablet screen just stares back at me like an idiot. No reason why its not happening other than the implication that I'm dimwitted, which is probably the case.

And I'm going for fairly static point-and-click type games rather than anything too dexterously challenging.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've searched through a few forum threads on the subject and they've all been inconclusive, so I doubt opening a new one will be much different. I'll have to keep looking. :-)

It does seem very hit and miss. I've even tried it with the same games and procedures those who have got it working have demonstrated with, but still with nothing to show for it. It might be that they were using an older version of DosBox Turbo and so there's a difference somewhere I haven't seen

Someone such as yourself with a fair bit of computer/Linux savvy will likely do better than I have. At least, I hope you do :-)

Are you trying to directly load the game? You have tried to load the DOS emulator on its own to check if it works properly haven't you? What happens if you just try to run it from there?

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if it tried to run... then crashed because of an unknown conflict with that particular chipset in that particular series of that particular model.
Virtualization is always tricky.

Seems like you're not the only one having those problems then. Good luck finding a solution :).

The way to do it is apparently to install the game onto your PC and then copy the installation across (less its own DosBox files) to your Android device and then point Android's DosBox at it. Opening the two programs on my tablet doesn't seem to indicate any problems.

Yes, but you see. What you're doing is feeding Dosbox turbo a script file to load and run the game. If there's even the slightest mistake in that file, it will just show you that blank screen. I've even found that things as morose as a whitespace ater a command, which in theory shouldn't have any effect, DO, fuck things up. That's why I was suggesting to fire up Dosbox and to load the game manually from the command line.

That should be all that's needed, that's exactly the way dosbox works on Windows.
Does dosbox do anything when you start it on the Android or just sit there?
