So, any guesses what the Staff Promo theme will be this week, if we get one?

I will go for a Space theme. Which reminds me, I need to ask Endre for recommendations for space games sometime.

ddickinson: I see, well I can't help you there, I have skinned a fair few things but never a human. I guess it is the same kind of method, but I will leave that for your roommates to figure out. :-)

To be honest, I will be happy if it is the same as last time, given what happened over the weekend. I do hope it will be a little better, but as long as nothing is worse then I think I will be okay with that for now.
-laughs- It won't reach that point. They're angry but not legitimately homicidal.
Good thing too, I wouldn't want them working on learning new skills in the kitchen while I'm trying to make coffee or something.

Sounds like a very reasonable hope there. Some extra info on the whole eye thing would also be pretty good.

PalioDeMonte: Good morning, everybody!!! *hugs and waves*

I hope you all enjoyed last weeks sale, which I skipped because of a combination of having enough games to play, low funds and not finding anything I'm really after. So I concentrated on my work instead of hanging out with you guys, hope that was okay for you ;)

Btw, I have to thank for all the nominations in sinistar's community GA - but getting 3 games is enough for now, I would feel bad to receive more. But if anybody finds a way to gift me more time for gaming, let me know - that would be a generous gift I'd humbly accept!!!

So I wish you all a nice week and hope to stay in touch!
Good morning. =)

Sounds like a good combo of reasons to avoid the whole sale thing. Hopefully you've been doing well overall.

What are these Staugh Piques you speak of? o__O It sounds familiar, but I can't quite remember...
;-)

Space games would be great! I don't have any of those! n__n
I'll throw in my guess: Agent-themed games :-)

moonshineshadow: 185 times in one level? Wow you have a lot of patience o.O
I think it is for the bes that you stopped playing that. I mean games should be played for fun, so no reason to continue it. Same reason I don't count the shooters I own here towards my list of games that I still need to play.
avatar
CarrionCrow: Hmm. Shoot 'em ups, or first person shooters?
Shooter stuff? *clueless*
I have to admit I am not sure what the difference is between your categories. But I guess they would fall in first person shooters.

While I was studying for my doctorate I saw some very horrible images of some Allied POWs during the Second World War who had been taken to a concentration camp and experimented on. They were skinned alive and kept alive for some time so they could suffer more. S.A.S. I believe they where, caught after completing a very tough and vital mission which really angered the Nazis, but I can't fully remember, as the whole thing was not something I would have liked to see, let alone remember in detail, just something I stumbles across while doing some research on the topic. Not that anything really from the death camps is nice, most of it is stomach churning. Sorry, made that a little dark there.

Well I am not one to get my hopes up too high, I tend to be more realistic, otherwise life just disappoints. They eye thing does seem to be just burst blood vessels by the look of it, nothing serious. But I will know for sure after the tests I think.

Legend speaks of them, in the long long ago, before the time of the Autumn Promo (becasue it is Autumn, not Fall, damn it! :-)). Apparently before the older times we had a mix of sales, but that was the long ago, in the before times of old. :-)

I also don't have any Space games really, which is why I thought I might try one, and Endre seems to be the expert on the topic.

An Agent theme would be nice as well.

So, as the resident city building expert, what city builder type game would you suggest someone start with if they never really played any before? I thought maybe the Caesar type games, or maybe something newer?

Good question :D
It first depends on what you want to do. Are you more interested in developing a "city" by supplying the citiziens with goods they need to evolve? Or do you more want to build huge modern cities where it is more about infrastructure and stuff?
Also often campaigns include some fighting other computer players. Do you want to do that more actively or more automated where you just need to build some troops and sent them off to do the fighting?

The olden times sound so different. How did people find the time to get bored back then, when they had a mix of sales? :-p

I'm kidding about not having any space games. I have this problem anytime a space game is on sale - I see it, and say "Oh, cool! A space game! I don't have any of those!" *buy* ... I now have a library full of unplayed space games, and still, every time there is a sale, I say, "Oh cool! A space game! I don't have any of those..." :-)

You should adjust it to "Oh cool! A space game! I don't have enough of those..." Then you can go on and happily buy more without it being a problem :P

To be honest, I have no idea. I just thought I would try some new kind of games that normally I don't play. It is hard to know what I would like, so I can't really answer which type of game I would prefer as all kind are relatively new to me really. I guess I would prefer one to start with that is not too heavy in the micro-managment, that is probably my only preference to start with. (I know, I am not very helpful. :-))

Oh they still did, they just moaned about multiple little sales rather than one big one. :-)

Ah, so you are one of those game hoarders who collects game and doesn't play them. :-)

Shoot 'em ups are the games where you're controlling a ship and blasting waves of enemies while avoiding projectiles. The first-person ones are games along the lines of Doom, Quake, Call of Duty, things like that.

That's a good point. Now that I think about it, I really don't have enough of anything in life! *goes out looking for more toasters* :-)
"poofs into existence"

I'M MR MEESEEKS, LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE!

Ah... That sounds like a much more reasonable way to do things :-)

"Hoarder"? I thought it was called "GOG user" :-) Isn't it a requirement here?

Sounds like the Nazis were sore losers on that one.

Agreed. Better way to look at things all around.

Don't worry that is fine *big hug*
If would recommend you two different games. Both are older, if you want something newer let me know.

Zeus & Poseidon: This is the latest of the Ceasar type games and if you want to try one of them out, choose this. The reason for that is that they really improved many mechanics and it plays really well. Definitely my favourite one of the series even if I like the Egypt theme of Pharao more, but the mechanic improvements just make it a much better game. In my opinion the game is good at easing you intohow things work, you start with some easy mission where everything is slowly explained to you and you don't need to deal with everything at once. It also has a nice atmosphere and some cool stuff later on like building temples for the gods and hero halls to get some greek heros to sent them on a quest for the glory of your city :D

Anno 1602: Another great game. Here you are not playing some ancient civilisation but instead you are going to settle on one or several islands and try to advance from almost nothing to a nice society and supplying your settlers with all the goods they might need / want. This game also starts easy with slowly easing you into things, so regarding this point you can just choose the one that appeals to you more. What is als nice that it has some nice voiceovers for informing you when some resources are getting scarce etc. (I can still remember some of them) - I hope they are also nice in the English version.

If you want to know anything more specific about them, just tell me ;-)
