Just had an awesome battle in the Prophesy of Pendor mod for Mount & Blade: Warband. Almost all of my current troops are from the Ravenstern kingdom and I own a business in all but one of Ravenstern's cities. Despite that, I'm not officially aligned with them.

I came across two of Ravenstern's lords battling the lord of another faction (which one, I have no idea). It was about a 60 vs 80 battle in favor of the lord from another kingdom, and that lord's army was mostly middle and upper level troops. Things were looking pretty bad for the Ravenstern lords, so I and my 36 troops joined in on their side.

As I do every battle I quickly lead my own troops to the nearest large hill and parked them at the top of it (as much of my troops are arrow flingers), and I went off to battle alongside the two lord's and their troops. I managed to to take down the opposing lord and his right hand lady by myself, but the rest of his troops were easily eating their way through the Ravenstern's lords' army (who themselves fell quickly). Soon I was almost all alone fighting some thirty troops, my shield and armor becoming arrow laden.

My horse and I were taking a worrying beating as we retreated back to my troops as I called them to charge, indeed I was in such poor condition that I couldn't safely go back to the thick of the fight. However watching from my troops' former stoop I saw them overwhelm the fatigued warriors of the opposing lords. As the dust cleared I discovered that I didn't lose a single of my soldiers, and only one had an injury!

The two Ravenstern lords thanked me for my help and I chose to allow the opposing lord to leave, he thanked me and asked me to think about joining his kingdom.

I love this game.

That definitely sounds more interesting and enjoyable than the game of Double Dragon Neon I'm chewing through.

CarrionCrow: Good morning. =)

How are you doing today?
Hello! I'm fine. A bit upset having fallen asleep too early again... Thought I'd take a nap on the couch... That become a lot longer nap I had intended, when I got up it was already early morning... Other than that doing good, checked out the lovely Costume Quest, quite fun!
How are you?

I used to do that. But you can't kick yourself too much. If you need sleep and you've got time to recharge, go for it.

Having a pleasant enough evening here. Had a nice dinner, now it's enjoying the quiet and playing some games.
Doing Double Dragon Neon at the moment. Feels like it could be a fun co-op, but as singleplayer it's not the best.

How are you liking that game? I've not played it myself and the color/shading/shadows look off from the screenshots I've seen of it.

It definitely was, at least me! If you don't have Mount & Blade/Mount & Blade Warband I definitely recommend them both! Great mix of action rpg, sandbox and strategy.

I have the base game, never tried it. But it is starting to sound like something I just gotta play :)
After playing a lot of Morrowind when I was younger, somehow got this... distaste for that sort of games :) Maybe it's just Bethesda games I should avoid, though ^__^

I thought it banked on style too much. The presentation isn't bad, didn't notice anything weird about the shadows, and the music is nice. But it's way too short and very simplistic. The developers expect the player to go back repeatedly, play through the different difficulty levels, but there's not enough to make me want to go back.

Hm... Is there an online co-op?
I don't see that one on gog, though...
Probably can be a lot of fun with a friend and a beer :)

I think it only has local co-op. Nothing's mentioned about online co-op.

No, it's not on here. Picked it up on a rental for a dollar.

I'd say that's the best chance of enjoyment. Without a partner, it's doing the same moves to pretty much the same people in a few different places. No real story, no characters, no in-depth fighting system. Beat it in 3 hours.

Maybe my most recent battle can give you that last little push.

It was early morning and I had just gotten word that a group of bandits I had been hunting had been defeated by somebody else, meaning I lost out on the payday. Fairly disheartening considering I had spent a good chunk of time looking for them, and I sorta needed the gold. Still, that's the way life goes sometimes.

As we rode around looking for bandits to get rid of I spied a small Jatu Warband transporting people they had captured. Jatu are basically evil snake worshiping marauders. Their troops are tough as nails, usually equipped with top shelf weapons and armor, a small band of them can take out a much larger band of enemies without much problem.

It was 30 of them vs 36 of us. Not the best of odds...for us, but I went for it.

The battle started well, I toppled the first of their troops (and his horse) with a single swing of my sword. Then their "real" troops came riding across the frozen tundra, all but two or three troops were mounted on armored horses, lances that'll stop you in one direct hit in the hands of some of their warriors, sword and shield in the hands of others.

Within minutes I was down to half health, my shield broken and my soldier's being swallowed by the Jatu war machine on hooves. The shield was the biggest concern though, even if a shield only ate one lance attack then that's one more moment I'm alive.

I saw one of their mounted troops with an sword and shield fighting a couple of my ground soldiers, so I called a few other nearby allies to help me surround him, we managed to take his horse down and surrounded by me and my soldiers, he stood no chance. I grabbed his shield, jumped back on my own horse and raced to rejoin the ongoing battle of mounted soldier vs mounted soldier.

During the time I had been away one of my newest troops had taken over. He's a paladin named Roland and he proved that he was worth the 8000 gold it had cost to hire him. He and my other mounted troops had managed to not only hold their own, but go on the offensive against the Jatu riders. With my being back in the battle we eventually overcame them, with me taking down their last rider just as I had their first.

After the battle I realized I had lost 9 of my troops, 12 others were injured. Heavy losses, but with one less Jatu Warband roaming...perhaps it was worth it. However as some soldiers leave, others come, I was able to refill my ranks with those I had freed and I'm sure they'll prove their worth.

Holy Macaroni!
That's some story :)
Dammit! I just gotta play this game soon :)
That's the kind of thing a good game has, there's the main story and side quests and all that. But then you kind of manage to create a story on your own from your adventures and battles... It's not just about grinding and leveling up and then beating bosses... that's just too unattractive to be repeated ad infinitum...
Also glad you're having fun :)

Wheew.... 3 hours... :) Hope you at least got something out of it... A bit stress relief or something.

On other news... As I have now lots of games I want to start getting into; Wasteland 2 Director's Cut wants to offer me a whole new area to get into. It's like, "Aha-ha! You thought... You actually thought *hearty laughter* that this was it?!"

I got the knowledge that at least I only paid a dollar. It's really not a great game, but I can take that away from the experience.

-laughs- It's sucking you in. A week from now, you'll still be trying to get free of it.
morning everybody!

Tomorrow's exam day, I'm about to get those final hours of studying in.

And we were supposed to attend Berlioz's grande messe des morts yesterday in Brussels, but due to a lack of parking space in Belgiums grand capital we totaly missed the performance.

besides that, everything is fine. How are you all?
