It is not what it was. Games Workshop seems keen on ruining it all. In fact, they have all but stopped Warhammer Fantasy after decades, which has really upset and angered the fans. They releases some other rubbish that is just simplified down stuff. The rule book went from 100+ pages to about 4, so that should tell you how simple they made it. The lore is very good (especially in 40K), IMO, at least it was until they started to ruin it all. The price of the miniatures also when sky high. A fine example of a company just destroying itself.

Edit: They also give their license to just about anyone these days, so most of the PC games are horrible. A few are really good, but most are just cheap attempts at milking the brand.

Well,I'm unable to buy said games and I can barely sit down to play my games.
Anyway, time for a little Dr.Who binge.

I know, and I am trying to decide if it should go on my wishlist. I am a sucker for 40K, and the older games were usually oaky games, but I have not heard of the new game before.

It is nice that GOG keeps timing new releases for old games to be part of a sale as well.

Yeah, that's really nice. It seems like the "classic release" days have changed from Tuesday and Thursday to Monday and Friday. (Hopefully they change more stuff, like fixing the website and giving us back manual shelf sorting... :-p)

You are a dreamer. We all know that will never happen. :-)
The old shelf is gone forever, lost to the sands of time. :-(

So how do you like the promo? I own two of the four games, but I am not decided yet about the new game. It looks okay, so I will probably add it to my secret wishlist. :-)

I miss Ol' Shelfy :'-( *sniff*

I dunno. I've never really known anything about Warhammer, except playing two games and having my legs cut off with a chainsword. (I bought Dawn of War 2 because the gameplay was something I was craving at the time, but I knew nothing at all about the universe.)
Plus, I haven't been in a strategy mood for a couple months. Still, I think the new game looks kinda cool. I noticed in the description something about "RPG elements" like leveling up skills and customizing units with gear. Sounds cool :-)

I like the DOW games, although they got worse with every new version. I preferred the first games with traditional RTS stuff over the loot kind of stuff with the second games (which I have not really played due to the whole DRM stuff). I don't think you really need to know much about it for the games, but I have only played one of the 4 so far, so I am not sure about the others. Final Liberation is lots of fun, and a nice adaptation of the table top game, although the units are not quite equal. For example, kick arse Space Marines are just as weak as regular soldiers. The game has many faults, but overall it is fun.

I got the first DOW game in a Humble Bundle a while back, but haven't played it yet. It's been on my "to play" list for a while, but I'm just not in a strategy mood lately. My gaming moods tend to shift quite often.
As long as a game is fun, then nothing else really matters for me. After all, isn't that the point of games? To have fun? Of course, that is the second point. The first point is to collect them all so they can look pretty sitting on your shelf :-) ... Which brings us back to Ol' Shelfy :'-(',',',','

That is fair enough, I have loads of games to play that I am just not in the mood for, not that I can really play them at the moment. The nice thing about all these sales and cheap games is that we can get a nice selection of games for the different moods we have.

I am not really one of those collectors. I have reached that point where there are only a few games that I still want, and I don't even have a 1/3 of the games on the site. I will leave the collecting to the others. :-)

Yeah, it's comforting to know that if I ever have a bad day, I can fire up Postal 2 and burn crowds of people to the ground >:-) (I've been playing that lately, thanks to your recommendation. It's not bad :-p)

I think I'm finally reaching the point where I say "Enough! You haven't even played The Longest Journey, and that was a decade ago!" >__o

*Kicks New Shelf square in the nuts* (Though I admit I like the tag system.)

Yeah, Postal 2 can be quite fun if you take it for what it is. I like it as the violence has an almost comical aspect to it. I think it it was done more "real" then I might not like it. it is a nice open-worldish silly game. I am sure I don't get all the American references, but the game is fun, and we are due to get the new expansion soon, I think.

I have not played that game yet either. The sequels don't look that good to me, they seem more like interactive stories than a decent adventure game, at least according to many reviews.

It is really entertaining. I find it kinda funny how much controversy there was when it came out. I remember reading newspaper articles that described it as "the worst game of all time" and a "murder simulator". It's not too different from South Park, as far as "questionable content" goes (but then, South Park has been extremely controversial too.) But you are right - the game is not meant to be taken seriously. It is entertainment.

*rolls around on the ground with New Shelf, pummeling it mercilessly* >:-|
Good afternoon, GOG !
**Big hugs with herbal tea**
How are you doing ? :)
