AgentBirdnest: I didn't play any beyond the third game (around 1997ish). It was so controversial, which made it even more fun :-)
If I remember correctly there was a cheat to unlock the blood. But I might be remembering that wrong.

avatar
CarrionCrow: Doing okay here. The weekend might be more active, but for now it's a quiet day. Fiddling around with computer stuff while pointedly avoiding playing Puzzle Quest 2 and thinking about what to get relatives for the end of the year what-not.

Gradual improvement is acceptable, so long as there's improvement. Want you to be feeling better, not worse.

Something worth living for...always a good thing. =)
Good to hear you are doing okay. So you are starting your Christmas shopping? And I can't say I have ever played any of the Puzzle Quest games.

I am quite happy with the results. Yes they could have been better, but they could also have been a lot worse.

It is indeed a good thing. I have been doing some surveys about it all as they are collecting data due to me being one of the rare ones to survive a few bad episodes and to also be able to do so without being in the intensive care unit all the time, and there was a section that asked me what I considered the greatest contributing factor for me doing so well with it all, and I actually put that it was my wife and all her support. One doctor was a little annoyed, although I am not sure why, it was a honest answer, but the others agreed as healing and getting better is about more than just the physical side of things. I think some doctors forget that.

ddickinson: If I remember correctly there was a cheat to unlock the blood. But I might be remembering that wrong.
It came with blood enabled (at least in the US) but there were cheats for more blood, or green blood.
There were actual US congressional hearings about the game when it was released. Kinda funny to watch those now :-p
avatar
ElTerprise: How dare you insult the traditional language from Northern Germany which is actually much more related to English and Frisian than the "normal" German is ;)

Well Space games are rather niche i'd say although RG is not a fullblown space game like the X-series or Freelancer or something like that.
Have you not seen all the fun me and Agent have with English. If I insult English then what makes you think I won't insult German as well. :-)

I know, we have quite a few on GOG. They do seem to be popular, and there is always a popular reaction to them when they are released.
avatar
AgentBirdnest: I thought he did a great job with Mission Impossible 3. If he does as well with SW, I'll be happy... I doubt I'll see it anytime soon though...
Yes. Mission Impossible 3 was good and i also liked Alias but the Star Trek movies not so much. But then again Abrams admitted that he's much more a Star Wars fan...

avatar
ddickinson: It is a Disney movie that ticks all the political correctness boxes and Hollywood movie checklist. So I would imagine it will be the same as most over Hollywood movies, just with a Star Wars skin. The fans will sing its praise and condemn anyone that says they are rubbish. Just like so many did with the last three that were made. I just don't understand fanatical fans, not just with Star Wars or Star Trek but anything. Some fans get so violent and angry and obsessed with such silly things. Like you said, some seem to devote their life to them, and they will argue with anyone with a different opinion about that they like, a bit like many AAA game fanboys.
Yes might be. In that will be the case - well then i guess i'm skipping the sequels....and watch them when they will be shown on TV or rent the DVD / Blu-ray ....
I don't care about the fanbase - what matters for me is what i think of it - isn't it? Same for Star Trek.
Well if they really would argue with them that would be a step in the right direction but i usually don't see that much argument in it ... maybe because in the times of the internet the ability to really and seriously argue (and i'm sure that would be possible for such matters as well) is lost....or no longer required....which is actually quite sad....
avatar
ddickinson: ..., and there was a section that asked me what I considered the greatest contributing factor for me doing so well with it all, and I actually put that it was my wife and all her support.
I really think that's the most important thing - people who care you you are people to live for.

Ok lovely people of the thread. I'm just too drunk and tired to hang on.

You all have a lovely night and weekend!

Of course. But don't you actually insult the American English rather than proper English....;)

Maybe it's because there a lot of people actually liking the genre but there not that many games nowadays (same with real RTS)....

I think we had it disabled in the UK. I think like the South Park game we ended up with a generic release that was censored due to the German censors. Often the UK has its own version, but sometimes we just get a generic EU release.

That is very true. As long as people enjoy it then that is all that matters, I just wish it wasn't been pushed down everyones throats at the moment. I am possibly over generalising my comments, or be just plain wrong. But then I am tired and quite fuzzy headed today, so what do you expect.

It is indeed. The little things are what make life great.

Take care, Tom. I hope you have a good weekend.

Hey, I have no problem with doing that. We British have a good sense of humour for most things, and we are more than able to laugh at ourselves. But my playful banter with Agent is just that, playful banter, and I can hardly do that with myself, and with me being one of the few UK users on the thread then it leaves few others. :-)

Afaik the European PC version had only the swastikas censored. But having a generic EU release can be annoying because everyone has to suffer from (potential) censorship in one country. Tends to be Germany but it also happened several times with some movies and series that we got censored EU-wide versions thanks to the BBFC.

As i said - i fully agree with you.

I know - that's something - at least from my experience - most of the Germans lack which is unfortunate. And the banter is a great read as well :D

No need to make fun of our english, they do it all the time anyway. :p

On a more serious note, not trying to offend or anything. But I wonder why brit's say they gave americans/canadians/etc their language...when those that came here with it came from there, so technically they/we already had it, wasn't given anything. :P

I think often it is the publishers just not being willing to make more than one version for Europe. And I know it is not just German who gets things censored, I was just using that as an example for South Park as that is one game I could recall off the top of my head.

I'm doing my "they're going to give me stuff, and I'll feel like a selfish ass if I don't give them something in return" shopping. Can't stand all the ritual around the end of the year, I just don't like taking stuff without giving stuff back. Thankfully it's only for two people.

They're all right, until you slowly descend into madness while playing them. I'd forgotten the full scale of how much of a cheating bitch the last boss of Puzzle Quest 1 is.

Poor doctor. They'll have to take their god complex and apply the thought of them being the best thing to happen to medicine since penicillin to someone else.

Willing to bet that quite a few doctors think about getting paid and not getting sued primarily. Total mercenary outlook, not giving half a shit about anything but going through the motions.

Better to sleep in your bed than at a desk...or a floor...or on top of a kitchen table...

Have a good night. =)

I never really considered it as "we gave you the language". My playful joking comes form you lot butchering it by being lazy and taking out letters for no reason other than simplifying things. I never mean any offence, I mean it as just a bit of fun. But then we butcher the language a little as well. That is how languages develop and adapt. Each region changes English, that is just how language works.

That and I think we still use some archaic things that were in use when we came over, etc. I don't take any offense but I never did understand the "we gave it to you" statement. lol
