EndreWhiteMane: Anyone with a decent internet connection could do their web, programming and database work for them, no need at all to move.
That's what you'd think. It seems like their structure is very, very centralized, probably to a detrimental degree. All the jobs you figure could be done via telecommute still have the stipulation that you have to move to Poland.
My crystal ball got hawked for game money years ago, so this is all speculation, but it does seem weird when you think about it.

Hell, I could do a Q.A. job, writing out reports and sending them in between playing games til my eyes bleed. But beyond all the reasons why I wouldn't get that job, I don't live in Poland and wouldn't know the first thing about getting established there so I'm not living in a cardboard box.

Stilton: Hello, fine Agent :-)

How's the world of S-B on arj and men from their parents' brothers?

English is not my native language and most of the time I think everything I write here sounds to everyone like "Ooga Booga"
However I have to ask: What is this?

Stilton: That's probable. Its a shame they can't stay on home soil. I fear that being a part of such a big global gaming machine as the USA will take some of the cottage industry out of them and turn them into just another big wheel among dozens of others. They still have a personal touch, and it would be a shame to see it compromised because of a change in attitude. Growing is good to a point, but there is always the danger of becoming too big. There'll be more pressure to handle indie games because they are a growing force, and the 'new' release of old games is going to dry up and become a secondary concern at some point.
It's a tightrope. Too small, people aren't happy with service. Too big, it feels impersonal.

I don't think the pursuit of older games is going to dry up anytime soon, and it's not just because that's what GOG is still best known for.
Older games won't dry up because it's a comparatively very easy way for companies to make money. Not only that, but they know by this point that they can put out games that they sold at full price years or decades ago and use them as a revitalized income stream, rather than letting them sit on abandonware sites not making them a frigging dime in revenue.

New game development is expensive. Really, really, really expensive. Companies will go for the opportunity to make more money on something they have to do virtually no work on, if any at all.
They don't revamp anything, GOG does it all - the QA, the compatibility testing, the packaging with whatever program might be needed to make it work on modern gear. Companies can sit back, take their 70 percent, and depend on GOG to go through every other part of the process.

Considering how many games are being rereleased under the label of "remake" or "remastered" or whatever bullshit they need to slap on to make people think it's worth buying the same crap they bought less than 5 years ago again, and at full price, the business approach of letting someone do all the work while getting to keep most of the money and putting in no effort makes sense.

What is this strange language you speak, ultra-rare Brazilian caveman-type person? ;)
Oh my, don't we all look like a grumpy bunch tonight. Cheer up, GOG could be a lot worse, believe it or not. :-)

Too much going through my head at the moment so not much chance of sleep, so I figured I would pay you all a visit and see if you are all behaving yourself. But then I see the likes of Stilton, Crow, and Endre all together and I know that trouble is brewing. And not to mention Agent being involved. ;-)

I hope you are all having a lovely day/evening/night?

*big tired silly hugs*

I've actually never seen that show (or the movie.)
Other than that, the Espy Onnarge is going as well as usual. Sitting at my computer in a superspy-style tux and using my laser watch to tease the cat B-|

Hello, lovely Endre. How have you been enjoying your day off and your new space game? And how are you, of course?

Trouble always starts when there are no ladies around that we need to be polite for ;-p
(Kidding. Besides, I'm always polite :-))

Good evening, DD. *big hug*

Don't ever worry that what you say sounds like "Ooga Booga" - you really speak very good English (better than a lot of 'English' people I've known) :-)

I'm playing with Agent's name and implying that he is a secret agent. 'S-B on arj' is a clumsy deconstruction of espionage, the world the secret agent spends most of his life in, and the rather wordy 'men from their parents' brothers' is a reference to The Man From U.N.C.L.E., one of those addictive American TV shows that, once seen, can never be forgotten.

Doing fine here, the nap and a few aspirin killed most of the aches. :-)
The game is quite awesome so far, the nap kept me from getting back to it yet.
You doing OK other than a busy brain?

I can't BELIEVE I didn't get the man from uncle one! SHAME on me.

I don't think I'm being too grumpy. I'll whip out my worst-case scenario thinking right now, which is to always make sure your games are backed up. Every single thing, make sure it's backed up somehow at all times just in case. Other than that, I'm still giving them money, gearing up for the next big sale and hoping they can do whatever they need to keep the business rolling along and doing well.

And yes, GOG could be a hell of a lot worse, absolutely. It could be Uplay.

Doing all right here, listening to some Doug Stanhope in between talking here. It's a nice afternoon, autumn seems to finally be here. (Course, as soon as I say that, it'll be another week of 90F or worse weather again.)

Additional - Just updated my list, and it's still under 60. It's still weird having a list that's smaller than a hundred.

That is good to hear. I wondered if you would get the game when I saw it, as I know you like a good space game. I am glad your aches are mostly subdued for the moment, let's hope it stays that way.

Not really, but nothing really to complain about. Kind of fed up of the health stuff and the constant nerve/muscle pain and the constant pounding headaches and the uncertainty with things, but that is to be expected. I am fine, just a bad patch at the moment. Strangely despite this mood I am still smiling, so things can't be that bad. Although smiling seems to be my normal relaxed face, so that could be the reason. :-)
