I'm starting a little essay on gaming. The theme is "Are videogames starting a new Renaissance?"
Good evening, everyone! I hope you are all doing okay this evening/day?

I saw Crow's list of evil activities, and thought it would be fun to see how many I am guilty off. Feel free to copy the list and take part as well. It will be interesting to see who the most evil among us is. :-)

✘ - Eastern Religions
✔ - Yoga
✘ - Freemasonry
✘ - Illuminati Groups
✘ - New Age Religions
✘ - Church of Satan
✘ - Scientology
✘ - Rosicrucianism (A philosophical secret society said to have been founded in late medieval Germany)
✘ - Astrology
✘ - Tarot Cards
✘ - Ouiji Boards
✘ - Remote Viewing (Is this like doing dirty web cam shows or something? :-))
✘ - Palmistry (Palm-reading, I think.)
✘ - Voodoo (which reminded me of this song. I had such a crush on Jennifer Connelly when I first saw this movie in my teens, although the film had already been out for quite some time by that point.)
✘ - Earth Worship
✘ - Wicca
✘ - Cyberpunk Culture (is Dieselpunk and the other alternatives allowed?)
✘ - Divination
✔ - Meditation
✘ - Vegetarianism
✘ - Lycanthropy (I think this is to do with Warewolves)
✘ - Postmodernism
✘ - Backmasking (Where you secretly record a message in a song that can be heard when played backwards.)
✘ - Astral-Projection
✘ - Necromancy
✘ - Re-birthing
✘ - Kabbalah
✔ - LOTR (Lord of the Rings, I presume?)
✘ - Fire Waking
✘ - Levitation
✘ - Alt "Comix"
✘ - Vampirism
✘ - Trilateralism ("The practice of engaging in three-party relations, agreements, or negotiations." I assume it means not having a relationship with more than one partner? Does that mean Moomins are not allowed as well? :-))
✘ - Marihuana & Pot Parties
✘ - LSD/Shrooms (what are shrooms? I guess just an abbreviation for mushrooms?)
✔ - Video Games
✘ - Harry Potter (I agree with this one. If you like that garbage then you are pure evil and no amount of repenting can save your sorry soul. :-))
✘ - Dungeons & Dragons
✔ - Hallowe'en
✔ - Fornication (Technically, depending on the religious definition of the term I can still say no, in fact depending on the definition used I can still be considered pure and chaste, perfect Nun material. ;-))
✘ - Skull & Bones (Does this mean pirate stuff?)
✔ - Rock Music
✘ - Heavy Metal
✘ - Burning Man
✘ - Twilight Films (Again, I agree. Just like Barry Potter, if you liked these films then you are doomed. Also, are the books allowed but not the films, as it specifies "films", whereas LOTR and Barry Potter was just the name?)
✘ - Raves & XTC (Not sure what XTC is, maybe another type of music even such as raves?)
✘ - Goth Culture (I look like a goth at the moment due to my health, should that count? :-))

Total out of 47 possible influences = 7, which is like 15%.

Stilton: Face-stuffing time, see you all in a while ;-)
If you're still at it, I just hope you're pacing yourself. ;)

I'm on my second listen of The Straight Story, and it's really gorgeous. I fell asleep to it earlier, and woke up and fell asleep, repeated the process a few times. I'm a bit more awake now and giving it a more thorough (and conscious) listen. Thanks again for the new music! I probably could have kept that exchange going for days, as I absolutely love sharing adored music and hearing new music that others hold close, but figured I'd hijacked the thread more than enough already. :)
This is the perfect soundtrack for today, though. Thanks again for sharing!

FearfulSymmetry: Yes, it is faithful to the book otherwise. Not all the events were the same but it was in the same kind of atmosphere as the book. Some of the events had to be dumbed down a little, but that is understandable, as film is a very different medium, and in this case it worked well. The Martian is a funny and yet touching book and the film was the exact same. I think Matt Damon did a very good job in this one. As for which one first: I don't think it really matters, they both have the same kind of 'spirit', so if you like one you'll like both. Maybe go with the film first, though, because if you like the bit they cut as much as I did then you can save it as a nice surprise later and not be disappointed that it's not in the film. :P
Sounds really promising. Usually i try to read the book and watch the movie based on it afterwards (that ruined the Harry Potter for me though - except for Prisoner of Azkaban and Lord of the Rings to some (small) degree as well :P) but in that case watching the movie first sounds like a good idea then. Thanks. :)

Yay for Labyrinth, that's one of my biggest guilty pleasures. I know that entire song by heart and was the only person to guess it right in our most recent pub quiz. :P How are you doing DD? *hugs*

(Also, according to you I'm doomed now because I like Harry Potter, but I grew up with it and it was the first book I really read for myself, so it will always mean something to me. It's also the thing that got me into writing.)

Yep, I'd go with that. They're different enough to make each experience rewarding in its own right yet they're definitely in the same vein. I recommend it, I laughed a lot both while reading the book and while watching the film.

I like the film as well, and the nice songs. I am good, thank you. I had a very pleasant evening, although I fell asleep earlier this afternoon and miss a bit of it, but I still got to spend some lovely time with my partner. How are you, are you looking forward to the weekend?

So you are doomed. But since it is you we will make an exception. But we will have to keep a good eye on you for any signs of demonic possession. Did you do the silly list, how many did you score on it?

*big hug*

akhliber: Hello! Windows 7 is by far my favorite Windows experience thus far. XP was a close second. I recall being excited when I installed 7 to try the games I couldn't get to work on XP. I don't remember what game it was, but there was one that I could never get to work on XP, but would work fine on 7, so long as it was in compatibility mode for Windows XP. I found that quite amusing at the time. ;)
Afternoon, Akh! Heh, that is quite amusing :-)
I also have a couple old games that broke when I updated XP to SP3, but I've heard others say that they are perfectly functional again with Windows 7. I look forward to replaying those ones again.

Yep, the songs are definitely catchy. Good to hear you had a nice evening, even if you missed a little part of the afternoon. (That just means more energy for the rest of it, right?) :) Yep, I'm glad it's weekend, I'm a bit tired and my eyes are burning because of some contact lens trouble so it's good to relax now. :P Just two more weeks and the first half of the semester will be done (I'll have to hand in a couple of essays then but I won't have to go to university for a bit).

I didn't completely fill it in but I think I've got slightly more than you. Mostly thanks to Harry Potter and the fact that I can do tarot readings. Does it matter if I don't believe in it? :P I enjoy tarot because I like reading people. The trick to it is to find out what floats each person's boat and then play on it, using the definition of the card that suits that particular person. I really enjoy that. Sometimes it's kind of uncanny, though, and I once made someone cry because of what I described, which was a bit weird but also touching.

Sorry to hear you are having some problems with your contact lenses. I hope it is nothing too serious, burning eyes does not sound too pleasant. *big feel better soon hug*

So just a few weeks before you can have a little rest, that is nice.

So you are more demonic than I am, that is good, at least I know I am safe and not the worse. I think that will be ELT, because, well it's ELT. :-)

I think Tarot would be a yes, even if you don't believe in it. I put a tick for meditation and I do not really buy into all that stuff, but it can be a nice way to relax, so I have done it now and then. But the whole spiritual side of it is not really my thing. Any guesses as to who will be the most demonic? :-)

Good day, Mr Agent!

We are conducting a serious scientific experiment based on the list Crow posted earlier. if you feel like it go through the list above and tally how many you said yes to, then share the score so we can find out who is the most demonic person on the thread. :-)

*big hug*

Thank you for taking part in the silly fun. But I think you made a miss calculation. It might just be 8, but the Barry Potter thing pushed the percent to 100%. But don't worry, for the sake of the test we will just take into account the 8 score and not the percent. :-)

Thank you again for the lovely gift earlier. Are you having a nice evening?

XTC? Oh man, that's some dangerous stuff! You can just hear the evil pouring out of every note!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Da9sc6YDBo

;)

(I'm guessing they're referring to the drug ecstasy, which someone much younger than myself told me recently "isn't even what that stuff is called anymore." I guess I'm too old for drug culture. :)

ddickinson: Good evening, everyone! I hope you are all doing okay this evening/day?
Evening, Ms Kinson. Can't complain here. Rather than put an X or checkmark next to all 47, I'll just list the ones I'm guilty of to keep it short :-p

Yoga (tried once or twice and failed)
Freemasonry (Moominism stole their rituals from them :-p)
Palmistry (Bulsh*tted my way into making friends with this one :-))
Voodoo (We got one for Christmas when we were kids)
Meditation (Hippie friend \o/)
Vegetarianism (tried and failed)
Backmasking (tried with my brother once, with his recording software)
LOTR (meh... movies are okay)
Video Games (Only a couple times, the rest of my time is spent talking about them ;-))
Harry Potter (errrrr.... sorry, but I like it :-p)
Halloween (of course)
Rock Music (woo \o/)

Total out of 47 possible influences = 12. About 25% :-)

So just a few weeks before you can have a little rest, that is nice.

I switched to a different type of contact lens and the results are mixed at best. Once I'm done with these I think I'll ask if we can change things around a bit more. Now I can only wear them for a few hours before my eyes become too dry, which is not really what I have contact lenses for. :P

Haha, I'll fill out the list below for those curious. I'm not overly demonic though. I don't think I've sprouted horns at any rate ... *touches head*

Yeah, I'll have to put a tick for meditation as well, as it's part of yoga, even if I don't really use it either. I guess I could put a tick for eastern religions as I've attended a few Buddhist ceremonies, but that was when I was young and my mother is kind of into it. It's not really a me thing though so I might leave it unticked. Also, Crow's list is missing Reiki. I may need to add an extra category and tick for knowing that. :P Haha, I don't really know? I guess most of us will score around the same ... but true demonism (is that a word?) lurks deep inside ...

✘ - Eastern Religions
✔ - Yoga (my physical therapist forced me to do it initially but I really enjoy it now)
✘ - Freemasonry
✘ - Illuminati Groups
✘ - New Age Religions
✘ - Church of Satan
✘ - Scientology
✘ - Rosicrucianism
✘ - Astrology
✔ - Tarot Cards
✘ - Ouiji Boards
✘ - Remote Viewing
✘ - Palmistry
✘ - Voodoo
✘ - Earth Worship
✘ - Wicca
✘ - Cyberpunk Culture
✘ - Divination
✔ - Meditation (as part of yoga)
✘ - Vegetarianism
✘ - Lycanthropy
✔ - Postmodernism (if we're talking about the literary stream, yes, my professors do force me to sit through that)
✘ - Backmasking
✘ - Astral-Projection
✘ - Necromancy
✘ - Re-birthing
✘ - Kabbalah
✔ - LOTR
✘ - Fire Waking
✘ - Levitation
✘ - Alt "Comix"
✘ - Trilateralism
✘ - Marihuana & Pot Parties
✘ - LSD/Shrooms

✘ - Fornication
✘ - Skull & Bones
✔ - Rock Music
✘ - Heavy Metal
✘ - Burning Man
✘ - Twilight Films
✘ - Raves & XTC
✘ - Goth Culture (no but I used to be into this when I was twelve. mostly I just liked the clothes. I still wear whatever the hell I like but it's not really outspokenly goth now.)

9 out of 47, which is a percentage I'm too lazy to calculate. :P

I'm going to add an extra one that Crow didn't put in though:

✔ - Reiki (palm-healing and distance healing. my mother is a grandmaster in it and as such I picked up a few certificates as a child.)

ElTerprise: That's always good. I mean i try to avoid as much GoT as possible because i still haven't finished the first book :P
Man, the show was such a let-down. I thought it was going to be awesome because the first season is a great and accurate representation, but it all went downhill from there. I stopped watching at the end of season 3, but I'm trying to get over my dislike and watch it again.

It's a great idea :)
Concerning Barry Potter: I realised quite early that the author was very fond of ripping of...i mean taking inspiration from other older material (best thing i ever saw on Facebook (which i hate but i need to have 'cause university -.-): Tolkien (yep that Tolkien being accused of ripping of Harry Potter o.O )...but i got the books as gifts from my grandmother and i actually enjoyed them as a kid / teen (i mean i got the first book back in '98)

Phew...thanks for not taking that into account for the test :)
