ddickinson: Good day, Agent Moomin! :-)
I will gladly take the really big hug, thank you.
Oh, so we are having a staring contest. I should warn you, I know the "Lazy Eye", so I am bound to win. :-)
*even bigger hug*
n__o ... I must find that movie and watch it again immediately! One of my childhood favourites :-) I will gladly take the really big hug, thank you.

ElTerprise: Yes just downloaded the demo and the game is missing some text ( i guess that's due to the fact that my system language is German rather than English). From the Steampage:
Recommended:
OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8
Processor: 2.2 GHz dual core
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Additional Notes: REQUIRED: English (System Language)
ElTerprise: Bestseller looks interesting as well. Might take a look at that one too.
That's a weird requirement, is it at all common? Either way, maybe you can email the dev about it? They seem pretty open to helping fix personal glitches/bugs/etc maybe they can help with this?Recommended:

AgentBirdnest: I might be thinking of the first movie... It's been so long, I can't remember which is which. Was it the first one that had that song "Somewhere out there"?
I can't really remember, it has been a long time since I saw them. I think it was the first movie, but I can't be sure. I like the Don Bluth cartoons, or at least the first ones. Some of the movies are so much better than the cheap stuff Disney produces. Although, Don Bluth and his team used to work at Disney I think, but they hated how they cut corners and things.

Good morning, folks! Just now getting both eyes to open, so it's time to catch up on the thread a bit. I hope you're all doing well!
I was hoping to be able to give regular updates about my experience with SOMA, but it wasn't having the intended effect. I have too much trouble with games with mostly dark environments and even when I turned the brightness up a bunch, I found myself just getting lost in the corridors and such too often. It's a damn shame, as the game *definitely* gives you a sense of terror. I think the part that gets in the way the most for me is the addition of a sense of urgency wherein I have some control or say in what happens. That right there just causes anxiety... I knew I feared control the way many people fear having none, I just didn't realize it would have such a powerful effect on my ability to play through the game.
However, I *will* assure anyone who is intrigued by the game that it has an *incredible* story. I was so moved by what I did see in the game before getting stuck/lost that I pulled up a youtube video of a full playthrough with no commentary. Not having to deal with the frustration of getting lost in the dark corridors or the stress of being in control and having a say in the outcome made all the difference, and I'm glad I at least watched the game. Easily one of my favorite science fiction stories of all time, and though I was skeptical of the reviews, I truly did feel it stood up to some of the greatest sci-fi novels I've read. One of the most haunting and unsettling feelings of "what does it mean to be human, to be alive at all?" I've felt... beautifully done, beautifully written, and incredibly effective in making you feel a sense of absolute isolation and hopelessness, and in provoking lots of thought about the nature of existence and consciousness.
I just wish I was able to just play the damn game... apparently I am fine with horror, so long as I have no control of what happens in any capacity. Otherwise, I'm an instant wreck. ;)
*hugs and waves all around*

I wish he kept making movies. I think the last one he made was Titan AE in 2000, which was a massive bomb and caused his studio to get shut down :-(

ddickinson: It looks like it has a bit of a Steampunk vibe to it, which sounds like a nice touch given the novel is set in the Victorian Era.
Indeed...and the game itself has a nice aesthetic too :) AgentBirdnest: n__o ... I must find that movie and watch it again immediately! One of my childhood favourites :-)

Haven't seen that one before. But i tried it on Windows 10 which isn't officially supported. I think i'll download the English language package later to test it again.

ô__ô My interest just multiplied by about 4. Sounds really cool. Glad you could enjoy watching it.
From the first screenshots, I was already interested. Made me think of "The Abyss" :-) (I'll have to wait to play it though, as my aging computer doesn't quite meet the requirements.)
... and some *big return hugs* for you!

I never knew he was a Moomin? :-) I wish he kept making movies. I think the last one he made was Titan AE in 2000, which was a massive bomb and caused his studio to get shut down :-(
I have not seen Titan AE, but by 2000 I was not really watching much TV or movies anymore. Most of the stuff I have seen is what I watched with my family when I was younger or seen with other people while they watch things. The Secret of Nimh was one of my favourites of his. Although, the sequels he made were horrible for the most part. It was as though the first one had lots of effort and passion put into it, then the sequels were there just to make a quick $.

Yep, he is... Which is odd, because usually Moomins make terrible movies :-) I have not seen Titan AE, but by 2000 I was not really watching much TV or movies anymore. I haven't seen The Secret of Nimh. My favourite was The Land Before Time, which ended up having like 93 terrible musical sequels :-\ The first movie is a classic though. Makes me cry :'-p
