CarrionCrow: Battletech Kickstarter is up. They've gotten close to 300,000 dollars in less than 75 minutes.
avatar
Stilton: I just looked at their promo - its clearly a game for men with beards.

I'm interested....
-laughing hard- It's funny you mention that. They have a separate system of stretch goals based on how much social exposure the Kickstarter gets. The ultimate goal involves three head people from Harebrained and three head people from the company that makes the tabletop version playing a game online, and the losers have their beards cut off.
avatar
ElTerprise: Exactly Plus they might hurt themselves in the long run with withholding stuff. People might remember that. And they could also make a bit more money on selling the extras.
But it's also true that those plans need to be properly disclosed to Backers as well.
It's a rock and a hard place, I think. The backers will appreciate a special bonus, but the developers risk backlash by not offering everything to everyone, like you said.

It's difficult situation and i see the problems with balancing the interests of the backers and of everyone else. And the backers deserve special bonuses - no doubt about that.
I guess there is no perfect solution to that but as i said the Battletech Kickstarter seems really appealing due to the way they handle it :)

Its like beards are some kind of status symbol or something men are defensive about. For some reason it makes me think of ancient statuary or fertility symbols, where the entire importance of gender is symbolized by ----

Ahem, sorry, went off on one there...

The game looks good, anyhow, beards or no ;-)

I'd do it through providing extras to backers (music, art, cosmetic additions to the game, whatever), while making sure all non-cosmetic content is available to everyone.

Just realized that the 20th was a year since my GI bleed. I remember exactly where I was when I first passed out. General Discussion :-p ... And I've never liked the place since then n__o
Went into a deep depression for a month or so after that... Got tired of the community here, and tired of life in general. Mid-November I started coming out of it. Right around the same time the Fall Sale started. Found the tracker thread, met a bunch of excellent people there (who still post here regularly. I won't list them because I'm sure I'll leave someone out, but you know who you are ;-p) and stuck around for the Winter sale tracker thread, and eventually this one. Still wasn't doing too well at the time, if anyone remembers the "old" me, but these days I'm doing better than ever. Special shout out to those who gave me a hand and kept me company when I was down. Odd as it sounds, being the internet, and we have never been in the same room, the people here had a hand in helping me become a new person. Thank you all. I'll never forget it.
[/randomly reminiscing] pay no attention to me ;-)

I think some guys may very well be a bit overly attached to their facial hair. Seems a bit silly, but I can get where they're coming from, I think.

It's extremely satisfying to face off with someone, battle back and forth, then pop their head with one lucky shot out of the blue. The tension is increased by the knowledge that every turn, the exact same thing could happen to you.

That might be a way but i guess there enough people who also would like those goodies like music and art.....

A beard is a secondary male sexual characteristic just like boobs are for females, of course you think twice about cutting it off!

Talking of such things... I've brought some snacks, enjoy:

A simple solution would be to give the stuff for free for the backers and sell it later on for people that are interested. I would see that as fair.

Oh, you. Talking about things of actual importance rather than randomly gibbering about shitty video games like...some other people...do around here.
When will you learn that personal growth and an improved outlook on life in general just doesn't compare to such earthshatteringly important topics as having too many games, not having enough games, or wondering when the next sale is so people can buy more games? =)
Hello, people of the thread. It has been a while since I have stopped by on the evening, I trust you are all still behaving on the evening? :-)

I am trying to get something written for Crew's lovely giveaway but I can't for the life of me concentrate on it. Crew doesn't mind if I don't submit something, she knows I am finding it hard at the moment with all that is going on, but I said I would try to submit a story so I will try. It is strange, normally I would just write some silly story that comes to mind, but at the moment I just can't seem to get my mind in gear.

CarrionCrow: Don't sweat the time zones. I try to get them right all the time because I'm weird, but it's not necessary. Good whenever works just fine as a greeting.

Yes, I did. It might be a side effect of getting older, but it seems that my body is at the point of punishing my dumb ass whenever I do that. Feeling like crap all day isn't a good trade-off for staying up for days doing shit of no great importance.

I suppose it will take me another year to learn that one ;-)
By the way, I have both too many and not enough games, and can't wait for the next sale :-)

I recall the 'old' you now and then, if only because he was so different to the 'now' you ;-) The same thing crossed my mind when I saw your pic, how comfortable you looked. Reminiscing is good...
