I see very little resemblance to Diablo. More like a lighthearted Ultima 7.

Like N2T3 said... and there's quite a bit of fellows you don't want to try fighting at the beginning. I suggest try to stick close to the map areas you're supposed to be visiting. It's fun gaining experience from fights that you can win, just gotta pick the right battles :) The weapons and armor make a big difference in the game too.
