CarrionCrow: Time perception is weird. I know my clock isn't broken, but it also doesn't feel like the time is accurate. For extra weirdness, it simultaneously feels both earlier and later.
Sounds like you have a temporal anomaly in your room.
Cool! :-)

-laughs- Evidently. And all it took was watching way too much Netflix in one day.

I'd try that but I'm confused enough about time as it is.

What do you think of Hong Kong so far? The reviews are all over the place.

Hong Kong is pluses and minuses. The character creation is still fine, variety and what-not. The one real change to it is having cyberware affinity, which is good is you want a highly cybered character since certain items are restricted based on it along with the overall essence boost you get by putting points in it.

The music's all right, it's nice but seems to lean a little too heavily on the sad violin playing. It got a little weird since my brain connects that to Max Payne, so I was thinking of that game every single time the sad violin kicked in.

The story's fine overall, it has interesting characters to talk with (one of your crew members is pretty frigging dull, but the others make up for it), the world's all right, and the primary goal is the game is interesting.

To me, there are a few different annoying little things in the game, as well as some much larger problems, though.

The framework is feeling extremely familiar after the same basic formula's been repeated. If you've played through Dragonfall, it'll feel even more familiar, to the point of feeling a bit of the copy/paste problem, at least conceptually.

You've got a hub area, you'll clear a mission, talk to every single person to progress their own little stories, check the stores to see if anything's been added since they add items over the course of the campaign (which I godsdamn hate, it makes planning character development unnecessarily hard when you're trying to budget and you don't know what the better items will cost), check the primary computer, read the cute or funny little bits of text that show up, then do another mission, then repeat. Pretty sure I did that at least ten times over the course of Hong Kong.

I can also see why a lot of people aren't thrilled, since the end of the game is pretty much a joke, difficulty-wise. It's supposed to be an extremely chaotic, hellish situation, and I ran through it without a care in the world.

Also, the last boss was an absolute joke. They're supposed to be a super badass, but I shredded them with virtually no damage taken whatsoever. On top of that, at the end you get text explaining how it all pans out, then cut to credits.
Really feels like they dropped the ball on that.

Ultimately, I'd say that unless you're absolutely foaming at the mouth for Shadowrun after playing Returns and Dragonfall, you can wait for it to hit a sale. It didn't blow me away. Rather, I started thinking that them doing Battletech is a good thing for more than one reason. If they keep doing Shadowrun games that are so similar every single year, more people are going to notice the copy/paste and stop buying. They need to start integrating more of the variety that the pen and paper books provide.
Right now, they have a formula, and after two games, it's very transparent. If they try stretching the same formula again, Shadowrun will be another sale item rather than a day one purchase.

Great review, thanks.
Haven't done Dragonfall yet so no hurry.

Not a problem. You should be okay, have a chance to do other things rather than paying full price. The way things go, it'll be on discount by the winter sale, I'm sure.
Already anxious to see what bethsoft will release on gOg next.

Good night.

Yes, I haven't won in the lottery many euros ever, perhaps even zero euros. Few hundreds in some other gambling things.

my only ever real win was about 15 years ago, completely twisted on tropical drinks at the helsinki casino, put all mine and friend's money on black and with pure luck we won some 200 euros each... that's the high point of my gambling career :p
