So apparently GOG changed their Linux installer format. No more tar files, no more deb packages, it's just .sh scripts now. Thankfully you can extract them with the unzip command. It's also nice of GOG to make them distro agnostic, meaning they should work on virtually any Linux distro, even though they still officially support Ubuntu and Mint only.

So, today's release is Yet Another 2D Sidescroller From Devolver Digital That Should Be Able To Run On A 20-Year Old Machine But Has Stupidly High Requirements™ ?

Come now, Agent. With such advanced next-gen graphics, mind-blowing physics, and revolutionary playing mechanics, you can't expect a game like that to use the logical system specs. Just because you can play much more graphically pleasing games with more physics and gameplay mechanics on less specs should not make you rant about the game. *sarcastic grin* :-)

Speaking of which. Whatever happened to RPMs? Are they still in use?

Tar files were an exercise in frustration. Aside from the fact that they were source code files, I was never able to properly start the make files. The exceedingly few times I was somehow able to correctly conjure that arcane alchemical ritual I was always thwarted by dependencies.

Ummm I assume so. I think that is Fedora's package format.

Although to be honest, the main advantage of .deb over .rpm was apt. Once RPMs got a proper dependency checking tool (I still have nightmares about failed installations because of THAT) it was basically a choice between flavours.
