ElTerprise: I see. 40 hours and more is quite impressive for agame of that price-tag. Well that's understandable - playing a game for the sake of beating challenges is nothing i'd like to do....

You play games to enjoy them? How dare you :P
I'd probably take a good 10 hours off the total time for a normal mode playthrough, since hard mode makes the enemy regenerate and packs them with armor so at least half of all hits bounce off for minimal damage.

I know, right? Well, most of the time, anyway. There are some things I bought that I know are shit. Those get played because my dumb ass spent money on them, so it feels even sillier to buy them, hate them, but not experience the stomach-churning rage in full.

And yeah, the "elite" challenges are pretty much geared for frustration and grinding to overcome them.
Example - kill an enemy in two minutes. An enemy who regenerates while alive, runs away then respawns after death, they're running through a level full of enemies, and both enemy mobs and turrets protect their respawn point. So, you have to kill the boss so he runs back to his respawn, kill the mob, kill the turrets, kill the respawn point, then kill the boss again for good. In two minutes.

AgentBirdnest: I imagine it would be a pretty good way to go ;-)

That might be the most boring LP of all time. It would be 83 minutes of me playing the same sh*tty (and totally out of place in an adventure game) shooting sequences over and over. A picture-in-picture LP would have some great shots of me falling asleep on my keyboard at least :-p

Hey, at least there is a soundtrack that wasn't included with the Indie Royale version ;-)
Minute 47 - "You can do it this time, Agent!"
"Kiss my ass, I hate this frigging thing!"

Sounds like a holdover from the old days of point and clicks. Odd design choice since I've pretty much never seen someone say that arcade-type sequences in old adventure games were a good thing.

AgentBirdnest: Extras were the justification I used to buy GOG backups of some CDs I had... Giants: Citizen Kabuto has a really excellent soundtrack :-)

By the way, hello Grargar. Thanks again for the username. I love it :-)
Hello AgentBirdnest. Glad that you liked it. :)

But even then it's a pretty good deal - money well spent i'd say.
Well i also "bought" some really shitty games or got them thorugh bundles - but i get frustrated really fast which usually results in me ragequitting the game and deleting it....

Well now i know that i'm not going to play those elite challenges...

On another note:
i just saw pics of beautiful skyrim mod i have to try when it's done.

CarrionCrow: Additional - Of the Wadjet games, which one would you recommend to play first?
Resonance was the first one that I played, and I think that was a good one to start with. It's pretty good quality all around. Good story, good characters, and really great puzzles. Interesting for being able to switch between 4 different characters through the bulk of the game.

Fearful, Owl, and I will all tell you that Blackwell is easily the best Wadjet Eye game (and the best adventure game ever, period.) The other games don't come halfway close to matching its story and characters... On the other hand, if you started with that, you might be disappointed if you decided to play any of the others.

I'd say Resonance if you are more interested in puzzles. Blackwell if you are more interested in story and characters.

ElTerprise: Yup. Did that and doing that with Paradox games ( i know big surprise :P)
You like Paradox games? ;-O
Well, I guess now I can say there is a game in my library that I already had DRM-free :-p

I shed some really ugly tears when the Blackwell series came to an end. :( Excellent experience, you really get attached to the characters and the story.

Sounds like Blackwell should be the closer. Good to know, thank you. Very interested when someone who isn't an idiot starts using phrases like "best whatever genre game ever".

Agreed, no complaints there. There are improvements that can be made, but that can be said for pretty much anything. Hopefully they keep working in the genre and refining the base they created.

Bad bundle games get tossed. No real attachment or drive to finish those when they're garbage. It's really just the GOG backlog that I have an interest in clearing no matter how bad it gets.
Hell, I played through Alien Shooter 1 and 2, and those are not great. At all. But they got wiped out all the same.

Don't blame you. Retrying the one I described, and it's a royal bastard to clear. Between the respawning boss, the respawning mobs and the dogpile "this sure isn't fun, I can't even jump and I'm dead in three seconds" tactics used get old real quick.

7 months since playing it, and I still think about Blackwell nearly every day. Can't think of anything that has ever had that kind of effect on me.
(Thanks to Owl, my generous Empress, who gifted it to me.)

Do you any game which couldn't improved at least a bit? And i'm currently downloading it btw :)
From i've seen, read and heard from you it would be nice if Haemimont would continue in this genre. Oh well GOG backlog is definitely something different and i also have some bad games here, mostly for the sake of completing a series (like Empire Earth III).
But i don't think i've a game of Alien Shooter "quality" in my library...

Definitely recommend it. I've heard that some people find the beginning of the first game is a bit slow, but don't be turned off by that, because the series is really awesome.

NoxTM: Mah surgery back at the end of March has ultimately made me feel worse. The (anti-)pain shot I had yesterday to numb the area... has made me feel worse. Kind of a bummer. BUMS.
Ugh, that really sucks. Hopefully the shot will actually start to help soon. Being in pain is not fun at all.

Yeah, I kind of need to go through the fifth game again, I haven't really touched it since I finished it. It was a great ending but it was kind of emotional for me as well.
I'll be off to run some errands. See you all later :)

Get ahold of whoever did the surgery. That was quite a while ago, unless it was major you should be feeling better.
Otherwise, what was the frigging point of going through surgery in the first place.

No, I honestly can't. All the way down to classics like Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape, things could still be improved.

Cool, just start on normal. Don't be dumb like me. -laughs-

Hmm. I'll have to get that for you at some point, so you too can bask in the joy of a game crashing dozens of times, broken enemy AI that makes monsters spin in circles like they're inside an invisible tumble dryer and boring as hell gameplay.

That's what i meant. I can't of any game either...
Yes that's what i had in mind :)

Please don't...that sounds awful...why are these games on GOG anyway?
